| | Pastor Biermann's Message There seems to be a great deal of preparing going on in the spring. This past week my wife and I spent a couple hours in the yard spreading mulch, straightening beds, resetting borders--getting things ready for the growing season. Baseball teams are in the thick of spring training--getting ready for the season ahead when the games actually count. At the seminary, it's spring quarter and everyone is working hard for goals close on the horizon--getting ready for call day and graduation. In the church, we're in the midst of Lent--getting ready for Easter and the celebration of the resurrection. With all the "getting ready" it might be easy to lose track of the present day itself. This is, I think, a persistent problem for us in our world. We are so prone to be planning for the next thing that we miss the current thing. We are so consumed with planning tomorrow that we forget about today. One of the key things taught by our Lord was not to worry about the next day. And while planning and preparing does not equal worrying, the principle still holds. We are to be people of the present, and people of today. Yes, there is a future to take into account, and it is wrong to neglect that. At the same time, there is a present to be embraced, enjoyed, and lived and not merely endured or survived on the way to something else more interesting or more pleasant. Spring, then, should be enjoyed for the gift it is. A spring training game has its own merits and delights--especially for those earnest players who will never make the jump to the big league. Working in the yard is its own joy and pleasure. And spending another Lenten day reflecting on God's grace and forgiveness is certainly an end in itself. Continue to prepare for what lies ahead, but don't ignore the very present and very real gift of the moment that is now.

This is perhaps the most well-known and well-beloved verse in the New Testament--and for good reason. This simple Gospel message is the foundation for our whole life--our new life in Christ. This new life is characterized by thankfulness and devotion to our Father who has provided for us so lavishly in Christ.

| In Our Calling For A Lead Pastor - GLC Members Can Submit Candidates to the Call Committee The Glendale Lutheran Church Call Committee is seeking names of pastors its members believe might be excellent candidates for the lead pastor position here. We are looking for a pastor who is experienced in (1) reaching out into the community, (2) fostering family life ministry, (3) connecting with people in genuinely hospitable ways, (4) forging mutual relationships with other church and human care organizations, and (5) doing well the expected work of pastoral care, preaching, and teaching. If you have a pastor or pastors you wish to submit, please provide that name to one of the Call Committee members by March 12, 2017. |
| Birthday & Family Meal Kits - Thank You! A big thank you to all who contributed to the BIRTHDAY BAGS AND MEAL KITS project for Operation Food Search. On March 6, we delivered 48 beautiful birthday bags and 44 meal kits. They will be distributed to agencies and food banks around St. Louis to bring smiles to little faces and their families who might not have had any celebration. |

| River Roads Fundraiser Results Fundraising efforts were a success for River Roads Lutheran School. Their board had given them a requirement to raise $175,000 in a short time, and while they did not raise the full amount set, the board determined the school had enough money to finish the school year. | Community Living Lord's Supper You are invited to the annual Living Lord's Supper at historic Trinity, 8th and Soulard Streets, on Maundy Thursday, April 13, at the 7:00pm communion service. The entire drama will be presented by Trinity's Music and Drama ministries. Tickets and reservations are not required. An offering for Trinity's ministries will be taken. Farewell to the Millers John and Ellen Miller have been teaching and conducting young musicians in the Lutheran South Instrumental Music Program and the LHSS Elementary Band Program since 1998. | Pastoral Care If you need pastoral care for any reason, don't hesitate to contact the church office or one of the vacancy pastors directly. Pastor Biermann will be at the church on Monday and Thursday mornings most weeks, and Pastor Erkkinen is available on campus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. |
