| Pastor Scott's Message  This week is our fall kickoff. That means that we start up a lot of opportunities for you to grow your faith. Last week's sermon was about moving from being fed the Word to sharing the Word. Well here are our times and places for sharing the Word. - New Men's Bible study led by me starting next Monday the 10th from 7:30am to 8:30am. This first one is a session from Lee Strobel on the "Case for Faith." We will investigate the toughest question to Christianity. We meet in the fellowship room for coffee, manly talk and scripture. We also will talk about what we want to study next.
- Dr. Paul Robinson is teaching "The Impact of the Reformation" Sunday from 10:45-11:45 in the Family Life Center. He will bring tell the story of the Lutheran church and how the Gospel went forth.
- Sunday School for little ones: Sundays 10:45-11:30 taught by Tim and Jan Cosby, Lisa DeBord and Nicki Boehme. This fall they are learning about the Kings and prophets of the Old Testament. More than that they are wonderful teachers who love kids. It meets downstairs by the Gym.
- Women's Tuesday Bible Study: Starting this Tuesday 9:15am to 11am. God moves through this Bible study and I have witnessed it. Not only are the learning about Paul by Ray Vanderlaan but they are sharing their lives through prayer requests. It meets upstairs in the corner room.
- Women's Thursday night Bible Study: Starts on the 20th at 7pm. They love the Lord and they love digging into the Word.

Leadership Nominations The Leadership Council is accepting nominations for two members to serve on the Leadership Council to replace outgoing Council members Bruce Hartung and Andy Ryan and for nominations for two members to serve as Elders to replace outgoing Elders Robert Lubben and Ron Froesel. Each position on the Leadership Council and as an Elder carries a three-year term. Please let anyone on Leadership Council or the Elders know if you would like to nominate someone (including yourself) to fill one of these positions. We hope to have nominations no later than early-September so the Leadership Council can consider them and provide recommendations in advance of our October 2018 Voters' Meeting. |
Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study The Tuesday morning Women's Bible Study will be starting September 11 at 9:15am. We'll be doing "A Clash of Kingdoms" presented by Ray Vander Laan where he takes us through Paul's journey to "Be the Message." This 5 week study includes a short DVD with time for reflection, review of our study guide ($7) and prayers. You're welcome to stop by and join us for one or more sessions of study and fellowship. Thursday Evening Women's Bible Study Autumn is nearly here, and so is the Thursday Evening Women's Bible Study. Beginning on September 20th, this group will again be meeting the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:00pm. Dear Dotty: Imagine my surprise...a copy of InkLinks the other day, and further to see your name as editor...a swell idea...many times thoughts of Glendale come to mind and questions...how the place is getting along, who is in service...what activities are taking place...who is in office...fine medium for passing on that info to us scattered all over the world...who never the less are Glendale residents and vitally interested in its every heartbeat...Keep up the good work. One Amazing Story from Samaritans Purse - OCC "Pastor Waisea Liwaiono hosted an Operation Christmas Child outreach in rural Fiji that had no church. He then invited the children to attend The Greatest Journey discipleship program. As the students gathered for Bible lessons, their parents grew curious and began attending too. The local witchdoctor became a believer and offered his property as a place for the new church to meet. Today 80 people attend regularly, and five additional churches have been started in surrounding villages!" This follow-up of Sunday's presentation about our mission project Operation Christmas Child is just one of hundreds of amazing results derived from the gift of the book The Greatest Journey that is added to your shoebox at the distribution centers. Imagine 11 million boxes being opened, prayed over and embellished with this gift. Thank you for your participation in our outreach! Blessings on you and the child who receives your gift. |
Notes from the Music Director Sing! Sing! Sing! Choir! Choir! Choir! Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 7:00pm in the Choir Room. I have chosen an outstanding program this fall including 6 new anthems! Come and see--come and sing! The choir sings 3 Sundays each month. If you have doubts about your singing ability please call or see me--in less than two minutes I can determine your voice range and will be happy to "blend you in" with the very dedicated regular choir members! Please read Psalms 147-150. |
Hands on Kirkwood Collection On October 6, 2018, Hands On Kirkwood will hold its 8th Annual "Free Winter Clothing Store." This event provides winter clothing items for all ages to those in need within our community free of charge. Items being collected include coats, hats, gloves, sweaters, boots, and jeans for men, women, and especially children's sizes. Also being collected are toys, bicycles, children's books, and diapers, along with children's new socks and underwear. Last year, Hands on Kirkwood was able to bless over 450 people with over 14,000 clothing items, plus many toys, books, and bicycles when they visited the free store. Please help this event continue to grow by donating items to the collection box in the hallway. Thank you! |
Dartball Interested in a game night of Dartball (baseball game played on a dartboard with darts)? Join us on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in game room in church basement. Refreshments provided--no experience needed (just a willingness to laugh at yourself and others)! |
Yard Work Volunteer Wanted We are looking for a volunteer to maintain the boxwood bushes on our campus. Bushes should be trimmed as necessary (2 to 3 times per year). It is estimated to take two to three hours to trim. We will provide a cordless trimmer unless you prefer to use you own. Please let Michelle know if you are willing to take responsibility for this seasonal task. |
Community Events LHSS Carnival Come one, Come all! Lutheran South is hosting a Homecoming Carnival on Friday, September 28 from 5:00-10:00pm and Saturday, September 29 from 11:00am-9:00pm. This community event will include rides, games, funnel cakes and more! Enjoy the football game Friday night and live music Saturday while your kids are entertained riding the scrambler or racing the pigs. Bring the entire family for a weekend of fun! Wristbands for unlimited rides are available for Saturday only from 11:00am-6:00pm. These can be purchased at lhssstl.org/carnival. Regular ride tickets, as well as tickets for food and games, can be purchased at the event.
The Wizard of Oz Christ Memorial Lutheran Church invites you to attend The Wizard of Oz. Performances will be held on September 14, 15, 21, and 22 at 7:30pm and September 16 and 23 at 2:30pm. All seating is reserved. Tickets for children will range in price from $5 to $15, while tickets for ages 13 and over will be $10-$20. Tickets may be purchased online at CMPShows.org, at the church at 5252 South Lindbergh Blvd (Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm). Email Tickets@CMPShow.org for more information. St. Johns Lutheran Trivia Night The Women of the Word of St. Johns Lutheran Church invite you and the members of your congregation to join us for our annual Trivia Night, which will be held on Saturday, September 22, at the St. Louis Police Officers' Association Hall (3710 Hampton Ave., between Mardel and Tholozan). Doors open at 6:00pm and trivia starts at 6:45pm. The cost is $20 per person or $144 for a table of eight, which includes trivia, soda, cookies, and light snacks. Beer and wine will be available for purchase (alcohol and coolers are not permitted). Tickets may be purchased by contacting the church office at 314-773-0126 or calling Maureen at 314-200-6296. |
