Pastor Scott's Message
One of the purposes of Glimpses is to share ministry moments that happen during the week with you. On Monday, our 75th Anniversary team had lunch with 50 employees from Chrysler in our Family Life Center. We made brats and burgers and everyone left with a smile. I was manning the front door, greeting everyone with a handshake and introducing myself. I met service guys, sales people and office staff. I heard over and over, "This is great.  Thanks for having us." We had plenty of food so I started inviting others who happened by. The UPS driver grabbed a plate. The roofer stopped in. The Lutheran and Family Service counselor, Jeanne Oberdan, was invited. The mailman, who is retiring in 8 months, sat down and all of the people in the room cheered him like he was a local celebrity. It was like the parable of the wedding feast. "Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find." There was enough food for all just as there is enough Jesus for all.  Thank you for those who volunteered both on Sunday and Monday.
On Tuesday night, we opened our gym to L'arche. They had a dinner to celebrate Paula's 30th year at the organization. L'arche is a community. People with disabilities who live in our communities are core members, from the French word coeur, meaning heart, because they are at the center of every L'Arche community. The people who live with the core members and help are known as assistants. At L'Arche, people aren't just cared for, they are valued. Everyone has something to offer. Everyone has something to teach. We saw that at church on Sunday. We had four people from L'Arche speak to us.  More than that, they worshipped with us. I loved it! It moved my heart and I hoped it moved yours. God is working at Glendale, every day of the week.

Operation Christmas Child
It's that time again! Christmas! Time to start shopping for school supply bargains to fill our Operation Christmas Child boxes. As you might have noticed, there is a table of "goodies" in the Fellowship Room to help you fill those boxes. Please take as many boses and fillers as you would be willing to make up for children all over the world. Last year over 11 million gifts went to over 200 countries to express the love of Christ to the underprivileged and, more importantly, many unbelievers.
Each box is opened, inspected, and a Bible study is included. Just try to imagine the dedicated hands doing such an enormous job!
There are cardboard boxes (to be assembled) as well as instructions and suggestions as to what is appropriate to include. You can also use plastic shoe boxes. This year we cannot include candy or toothpaste due to customs regulations in several countries.
Please include a $9 donation if possible in each box to defray the cost of shipping. Do not tape shut--use rubber bands instead. Last year we donated 68 boxes and I pray that this year we can touch even more kids with love, hope, and prayers.
Blessings on your efforts. Contact Carol Froesel (822-1365) with any questions!
Rummage Sale Thanks
Once again we were able to realize over $2,000 in sales. Thank you to those who spent some lonely hours sorting items through the week. Thank you to those who faithfully endured the sale hours to monitor and collect all that cash. Special thanks to all those who showed up after the sale. All those fresh hands together with some of the long suffering sale volunteers made short work of cleaning up all those left overs. Some items were sold at Play It Again, some donated to Hidden Gems, some set aside for later distribution to Concordia Seminary and International Student Ministry, and the remaining taken in several loads to Goodwill. We are actively looking for someone who is willing to organize the sale for next year. The job is well documented. All you need to do is add your special touch. Please talk with the Pastor or Michelle to find out more.
Faith Support for Individuals with Loved Ones in Jail
Through his role as Chaplain for the St. Louis County Jail, Pastor Vince Stanley has recognized the emotional stress placed on individuals and families when a loved one is in jail or prison. As a way to offer anonymous and confidential faith-based support for individuals who have loved ones currently or formerly incarcerated, Pastor Stanley will facilitate a one-hour support session on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00pm at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood. Please join this session and share this invitation with others who might benefit.
Notes from the Music Director
Worship is...
  • a noun which describes an encounter with God.
  • a word that comes from an old English root meaning to show honor and worth.
  • Worship is something that must be done.

Choir Rehearsals begin on Wednesday, August 29, at 7:00pm in the choir room. We have a lineup of great music including six new anthems! We encourage new members to join us as we continue to serve God in the ministry of music. Questions? Please see or call Jim at 314-487-6942 or 314-537-7691.

Yard Work Volunteer Wanted
We are looking for a volunteer to maintain the boxwood bushes on our campus. Bushes should be trimmed as necessary (2 to 3 times per year). It is estimated to take two to three hours to trim. We will provide a cordless trimmer unless you prefer to use you own. Please let Michelle know if you are willing to take responsibility for this seasonal task.
