Pastor Scott's Message
The floods in Texas have grabbed everyone's attention. The devastation is overwhelming. People set up tents on their roofs to escape. The elderly sat in waist high water as they waited for rescue. A family died as their van plunged into a river that wasn't there a couple of weeks ago. I've watched this tragedy and my heart breaks for them. Dads can't provide a home for their family. Moms choke on the words, "everything is going to be alright." Kids are experiencing that the world is not as it should be. Even the weather is broken.

But God is in control. He has a plan to redeem his beloved creation. Jesus hears the prayers of his church as well as the groans of the earth itself. The Spirit is working through the church and working on all of those who are in pain. God is present in Texas.

I saw a picture of a long line outside of Houston. Was it for food? Water? Shelter? No. It was for volunteers. The Lord is motivating hearts to sacrifice for others. Pray that God continues to restore the gulf states. Ask Him how you can be a part of that restoration. How Glendale Lutheran church can be used by Him. We are receiving a door offering this weekend that will be sent to Lutheran World Relief. Make checks payable to "LCMS" with Hurricane Harvey in the memo line. See what God is doing through our church at lcms.org/Harvey.
Thank You!
"We did it!"--to quote Pastor--we did it through the efforts of so many of you. Jeanne and I would like to give a special shout-out to everyone who worked so very hard to make Sunday's reception so lovely. Flowers, centerpieces, set-up, clean-up, food--oh, yes, the food! Ladies, we could "float" our church through a catering business if anyone wants to head up that committee! What a praise to our gracious and merciful Lord!

With love and thanks to so many,
Jeanne & Carol
Bible Studies

Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study
Tuesday morning's Women's Bible Study is starting September 12th at 9:15am.  We'll explore "What's Your Mission?" using DVD's and scripture as we study "Israel's Mission" through curriculum provided by Ray Vander Laan's series "That the World May Know."  Ray is a biblical archeologist whose teaching always gives fresh insight to scriptures.
If you are able to join us or just have questions please call Carol Froesel (822-1365) or Jeanne Clark (821-0522).

Thursday Evening Women's Bible Study
All women of Glendale are invited to participate in the Thursday evening Bible study which will begin September 7th. We meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:00pm at the church. We will be using "Glory Days: Trusting in the God Who Fights for You" by Max Lucado, published in 2015. Each person may order the book as they wish--it may be available as an eBook, on Amazon, on a church book resource site, or certainly at Barnes and Noble. Please order as you wish and come ready to be encouraged by the Word and Love of our God. Please pick up your name tag on the way into class and please call (314-882-2033) or email (cathleenalbers@charter.net) Cathie Albers if you have questions or concerns. Looking forward to being with you all! God's blessings to all during this special time in our church as we welcome the Jonas' family.

Nifty Knitters and Clever Crocheters
Get your knitting needles and crochet hooks ready; the Nifty Knitters and Clever Crocheters are starting up again for the fall beginning September 7! We'll meet on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays of the month from 1:00pm-2:00pm in the corner room upstairs. All needle crafters are welcome!
Knoble Knotters
Knoble Knotters will meet on the second Thursday of each month at 1:30pm (please note the new time!). We need more knotters and could use someone to cut fabric into rectangles. There is fabric at church that could be taken home and cut. Come and help us while getting to visit with the other knotters. Hope to see you on those second Thursdays! If you have questions, call Shirley Williams at 968-0368.
Choir
Choir practice officially begins for the fall on Wednesday, September 13, at 7:00pm. Come join us and make a joyful noise to the Lord!
Operation Christmas Child
I hope you've noticed the "Christmas in July" display of Operation Christmas Child Boxes. I've started this campaign now because this is when many school supplies are at a deep discount. Actually, we have until November to complete our donations. There is literature at the display to help you decide what to include in your gift(s). Last year, 11 million children received these cherished boxes. Those sent from GLC were sent to Mexico (we can now track them via computer). This is a project for the whole family, from grandparents to preschoolers, so please join us to reach the less fortunate and possibly non-Christians (tracts and other Christian literature will be included in your box by volunteers before they are dispatched overseas.

If you have ANY questions, please call Carol Froesel at 822-1365. Have fun and God bless our efforts!

P.S. Be sure to identify your box(es) by age and gender (there will be labels at church) and if possible include $9 to help with the shipping costs--this is not necessary but helpful. Again, thank you!
