Glimpses of Glendale
Glendale Lutheran Church Newsletter
December 19, 2019
We have two vibrant women’s Bible studies at Glendale. Both the Tuesday morning and Thursday night Bible study groups graciously invited their pastor to their Christmas get-togethers. I had a blast. I also appreciated how they made Christmas bags for our members who have been home bound. They stuffed the bags with cookies, toiletries, cards and other goodies. They brought them to our members and I did also. It was a wonderful sentiment.

I thought I’d give you an update on these members since I get to visit with them and most of you do not. Betty Welch lives the closest to church. She got to see all of her family for thanksgiving and her health is well. Mary Guion is a prayer warrior who makes those baptismal cloths and personalizes them. She had back surgery and her pain is much more manageable. Lucille Massie is at Mari de Villa. Her family and church family visit regularly. She even puts together parties. Pastor Dale Griffen is at Sunrise Living near the Galleria. He’s 99 years old and we still have great theological discussions. I had him meet our fieldworker Oliver recently. LaVerne Eifert and Vivian Kattentidt are both at Manor Grove. LaVerne goes out to lunch with her friend every Thursday and she still makes me laugh. Vivian’s son, Chris, retired this year and sees his mom every day.

Fred Aufderheide is at the Sheridan at Laumeier Park. His wife Mary lovingly visits him every day. She is recovering from her own health issues. Corrine Gutzler is still a spit fire. She loves going out to lunch and decorating for Christmas. Her neighbors really look out for one another. She is blessed. Joan Winkler is at Bethesda on Berry. Her dementia doesn’t stop her from enjoying a good conversation. Anne Hammann is recovering from surgery. She’s back now in her regular room. Shirley Williams looks out for her.

Thank you to everyone who looks out for our home bound members at Christmas. They are treasured members of the body of Christ.
