Pastor Scott's Message
It's epiphany season, which is when we celebrate God's light coming into the world. So it's fitting that Rev. Dr. Will Schumacher is teaching us this Sunday from 10:45-11:45. He is shedding light on God's work through Lutheran churches all over the world. He is a member of our church who regularly travels the globe to teach, learn, and visit family and friends. Pastor Schumacher has a point of view on Lutheranism based on extensive experience and education. We are blessed to have him as a member and lecturer.
Last Sunday he set the stage by sending us to the Bible where God's says he is calling his people to reach all nations. The Lutheran church is a small part of the whole but God does big things through small vessels. Then Rev Schumacher summarized the status of the church in Europe. All countries in Europe have freedom of religion and many have official churches. That means that there is a state sanctioned and funded church body. Citizens are opted in to having their taxes go towards the functioning of the church. In return they can have baptisms, weddings and funerals for their family. There are also free churches but all of them experience only 3-7% weekly attendance from their membership including the Lutheran churches. Europe is a secularized continent. The good news is that an influx of immigrants from Africa and Asia are very religious. Their faith is encouraging native Christians.
This week, Rev Schumacher is describing the Spirit's work in Africa, Asia, South America and Australia. I hope you come and hear what the Lord is doing from a man who has seen it with his own eyes.

CCLS Sunday
On Sunday February 10, we will be welcoming CCLS families and staff to worship at Glendale in celebration of our partnership. Like last year, we will be hosting them for breakfast after worship. Please see the sign-up sheet on the kiosk and let us know what you'll be able to bring. Thank you!
Courtyard Progress
At a December Voters' meeting, our members voted to move ahead and develop our courtyard area on the Sappington side of our church.
We have already garnered more than half the building and development cost:
  • We have member bequests totaling ------------------------- $52,795.
  • Your Leadership Council and Elders have pledged ------- $36,500.
  • One-third of our 75th Anniversary fund contributes ------ $ 3,400.
  • Recent member contributions add another----------------- $ 4,000.
Giving us a current total of -- $96,695.
On the table at the rear of the church, you'll find a display of pledge progress, along with a box to drop your completed pledge cards.
We will be accepting pledge cards through January because the contractor is ready to begin work this winter for planned completion in the spring.
Please prayerfully consider your pledge to this project - and make Glendale Lutheran Church more visible and welcoming to anyone traveling along Sappington Road.
Used Vehicle Needed
A college-age GLC member is looking to purchase a used car or truck to use for long drives next year to Nebraska. Please contact Pastor Scott with any leads. Thank you!
