Pastor Biermann's Message

VBS. The very name of the event conjures many memories for most of us. You might be able to remember when you spent a week (or even two for some of you) of summer vacation going to church every day, to learn Bible stories, sing songs, play games, enjoy snacks, and celebrate with a closing service at the end of it all. The tradition continues. Vacation Bible School can be a good way to interact with the surrounding community, and build connections with families. It's a chance to teach God's gospel, and encourage people in their Christian walk. But, of course, VBS is also a significant investment of resources, especially time, on the part of the church and her members.
The initial planning for VBS 2017 at Glendale has begun, but for it to move forward much help is needed. Some of those who played key roles in planning and implementing VBS in previous years are not able to help this summer. There is a need, then, for a wide variety of volunteers who are willing to give of their time to help make VBS a reality. The week will likely be in June, but an exact date is part of what needs to be determined and planned. For VBS to take place this summer, key leaders willing to take on the challenge are vitally necessary. If you are willing to help with VBS in any way, please contact me by this Sunday. Even if you've never been involved before, you are needed, and there will certainly be a place for you to serve. I'm looking forward to hearing from many of you.
On another note... Don't forget that the place to be on Sunday morning at 10:30 is in the Family Life Center digging into I Peter! Around fifty of you have already discovered the amazing depth and power of Peter's letter. There's always room for more. Come and be part of the study. It's never too late to join in the discussion, and gain from the learning that takes place each Sunday.

Stewardship Sentence

Matthew 8:26-27 "And they went and woke him, saying, "Save us, Lord; we are perishing." And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Jesus diagnoses the disciples fear as being caused by a lack of faith in Him. Indeed, every one of our temptations to sin is really about our faith - will we trust the Lord or not? It's the same with our stewardship - will we trust the Lord's Word when it comes to supporting the Lord's ministry, or will our lives be dictated by fear and a lack of trust in God's provision?
