Valentines Day is here. I’d like to thank my valentine, Ann Jonas and tell her that she is a blessing to me, our family and this church. On Sunday, our fieldworker, Oliver LaMie, is going to lead Adult Bible class around the theme of the Five Love Languages. Maybe you’ve heard of them. Author Gary Chapman developed the concept. The ways we love people fit into these categories: Gifts, Touch, Time, Acts of Service and Words.

Everyone has their love language preferences. Some people need touch more than anything else. They want to sit close in church and hold hands in public. Others hate public displays of Affection but love words. They would rather have a compliment than a hug. Others feel special when they get gifts. And so on. Discovering your love language helps you to voice your needs. Uncovering your loved one’s love languages allows you to know that type of expression they require.

In worship we should receive all of the love languages. As for touch, we shake hands as we enter. Kids receive the sign of the cross on their forehead. Adults taste Christ’s body and blood. As for words, we give confession and receive the absolution of our sins. We receive God’s words in the liturgy and the sermon. As for Acts of Service, people volunteer to bless others. Ushers, greeters, readers, children’s messages, communion helpers, choir members, and tech team serve Christ and serve others. As for time, we all set aside Sunday morning or Saturday night to be with one another. As for gifts, we give an offering to the Lord. On Sunday, come and discover your love language.

Staying In Touch: Cards & Notes for Shut-Ins
As many of you are aware, there are those in our Congregation who are unable to attend services on a regular basis due to illness, being “homebound” or residing in a retirement home or Nursing Home situation. In an effort to stay in touch, the shelves just to the right of the main entrance has a list of names, addresses, birthdays, etc. that Michelle updates often, and a supply of cards for all occasions..

We also have members who do not wish to be on the “shut-in” list, but who might appreciate a note now and again, or a card for a special holiday, Valentines Day, Easter, etc., or a quick note just to say Hello to let them know we are thinking of them. Sometimes we may notice that someone has not been around for a bit and might appreciate a quick note, or a phone call.

So, when you have a minute, grab a card, drop a note, and let them know they are still a Valued Member of our Church Family.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness!

Bible Class for Sunday, February 16
In a Valentine's day theme, we will be looking at the five love languages and how they relate to our relationship with God and others.
Birthday Bags and Meal Kits
Birthday Bags and Meal Kits are going for the 5th time at Glendale. Our CCLS families are being invited to join us. This is a great way to help a child who comes from a family with little resources to have a birthday party. We have until the First of March to complete our bags and place them by the table near the front entrance to church. If you did not receive a flier, there are extras on the table or ask Michelle to put one in your box. If you would like to participate in the gifting and gathering of all the pieces, but it is too much, you can 1.) donate money by giving it to Marcia Hempel or 2) choose some ingredients on the flier and place them in the box or on the table near the entrance. We will complete the bags after March 1.

The bags will be delivered to Operation Food Search (OFS) for distribution to agencies who work daily with families and know the ones in need.  Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you.
