Pastor Scott's Message
Thank you to everyone who was a part of Music on the Lawn last weekend. Carol Froesel did a delightful job organizing. The Apollos played great. We had over a hundred people that included members, friends, and new people. I met people who came because of Jazzfest. I met people who read about it in the Kirkwood times (Thanks Steve Phelps). Some were from the neighborhood. It was another sign that God is renewing us.
We raised $245 towards our 75th anniversary offerings, pushing us over $6000. When it gets to $7500 we will disburse it to North Glendale Elementary, Christ Community International and the Patio fund. Thank you to all who have been generous with their money, time and effort. We should also thank Thrivent for paying for the food through donating a Thrivent action Kit. Joan Schlichter initiated that and Miriam Lee picked up the fixings.
Coming up, we are going to make lunch for the Chrysler employees, Glendale Fire and Police. "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." (1 Peter 4:9) Glendale Lutheran has been given so many spiritual gifts.  It is a joy to be stewards for the Lord.

Daily Bible Readings

Glimpses from the Homefront
During the "war years" (1940s), some members of GLC took it upon themselves to write and produce an area paper called INKLINKS. It was sent to the servicemen and women from the Glendale area on a monthly basis. It was filled with news of the Glendale community, and listed names and locations of other members of the armed services.
They approached both the community and the congregation for the names and addresses needed and got to work. Each month saw a new edition and some of those took ages to reach their destination as those folks were on the move and therefore mail was not received in a very timely manner. These much anticipated newsletters touched folks in the Navy, Army, and Air Force (Corps), and hospitals, both staff and patients. Each letter was answered in a timely manner and included with the next copy of INKLINKS. The responses from the servicemen and women were addressed to Editors, Inkers, INKLINKERS, and Dear Mrs. Dobrunz. Many of these letters were obviously very poignant and filled with gratitude for the mail and news. In one instance the response was from our very own Roger Zimmermann.
We plan to share excerpts from some of these letters with you as a reminder of what a blessing these people were to our servicemen at a time when many were drafted into service, had never been away from home, suffered from homesickness and were anxious to hear about friends and buddies. News from home was like manna from heaven.
Those dedicated folks were Dorothy Dobrunz, Estella Barker, Gwen Sprurgrtt (sp) and Warren Schmidt. Many thanks for these fine folks and these precious memories.
GLC Quilt On Display
The quilt hanging by the Cry Room in the Sanctuary is on loan from former members Terry and Junette Higgins and their family Lisa and Corey. It was lovingly stitched by the ladies of Glendale and was presented to them when they moved away to California in 1986.
Thursday Evening Bible Study
The Women's Thursday Evening Bible Study schedule for the summer is: June 21, July 19, and August 16.
Notes from the Music Director
Anyone interested in a new or used piano, please let me know--I have the place! Jim Thielker (314-487-6942 or 314-537-7691).

Yard Work Volunteer Wanted
We are looking for a volunteer to maintain the boxwood bushes on our campus. Bushes should be trimmed as necessary (2 to 3 times per year). It is estimated to take two to three hours to trim. We will provide a cordless trimmer unless you prefer to use you own. Please let Michelle know if you are willing to take responsibility for this seasonal task.
