Pastor Biermann's Message
As I write, another thunderstorm rumbles through the neighborhood. It's that time of the year, of course. According to the experts, lightning strikes reach the ground 100 times per second, worldwide. In other words, thunder and lightning is common; it's just part of life. But, it's still an awesome thing, isn't it? A powerful thunderstorm can terrify and thrill and fascinate. And in its wake, a gentle and restrained thunderstorm leaves behind a world that is refreshed and vibrant green--thanks in large part to the nitrogen-rich rain that soaked the ground. But, that same storm, charged with enough energy, can surge beyond the parameters of "safe" and pound the earth with hail, shred the land with shearing winds, and even spin out a monster tornado. It's no wonder, then, that in ancient cultures, thunderstorms were associated with the power of the gods themselves. Baal, the favorite god of the Canaanites, and a perennial temptation for the people of Israel, was the god of the thunderstorm.
We know that God is certainly infinitely greater than the power of even the most extreme thunderstorm. The Canaanites made the mistake of underestimating the power and glory of God. It's a mistake that humans routinely make still to this day. Man is prone to think far too highly of himself, and far too superficially and narrowly about God. Our God is not the God of the thunderstorm, but the God who created and still guides the entire universe--including, of course, every one of the 100 lightning strikes per second on this one small planet. But, while lightning strikes don't capture or encompass God's glory or reality, they can remind us of some important divine truths. God's presence in this world is not odd or unusual, but a continual reality--as common and typical as a spring storm. God alone makes the world live-providing all that is needed for life to flourish. And, God is not tame, and does not operate within our boundaries of what is acceptable. You never know when he will surprise you--like that crack of lightning and simultaneous thunder that come "out of nowhere" and make you jump when the storm is rumbling through the neighborhood. Enjoy the season, and contemplate the lessons of the thunderstorm.

Faith Formation Ministry

Bible Class and Sunday School
Join us as we grow in our faith and knowledge of God's word.

Stewardship Sentence

Romans 8:1 "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." This is the joy of the Gospel! There is no condemnation for us before the throne of God, because in His love He has provided salvation for us in Christ. We have been set free. We are His children once again, and coheirs with Christ of all the blessings of heaven. If this does not make us thankful, nothing will!

Easter Breakfast
Our annual Easter Breakfast will be held Easter Sunday, April 16! This is a joyous occasion for our church and a wonderful meal together. Please see the sign-up poster on the kiosk to volunteer breakfast items. We appreciate your help!

Easter Eggs To Be Filled
In preparation for the Palm Sunday Fair on April 9, the eggs for the hunt need to be filled. Please help out by taking one or more bags from the basket outside the church office. Each bag has approximately 30 eggs in it. The eggs need to be returned to a basket which will be marked "Filled Eggs" by Wednesday, April 5. We will have the egg hunt inside as we did last year if the weather is not good. Thanks for your help!

Easter Lilies
Easter lily orders are now being taken. Call or email the church office, or use the bright green order form in your mailbox. As in the past, the price per lily is $7.50. Orders must be received by Monday, April 10.

Community
Living Lord's Supper
You are invited to the annual Living Lord's Supper at historic Trinity, 8th and Soulard Streets, on Maundy Thursday, April 13, at the 7:00pm communion service.
