How appropriate that last Sunday David Eberle of Lutheran and Family presented on Anxiety. Corona virus has a lot of people worried. Michelle in the office couldn’t buy hand sanitizer from our office supplier because they were sold out. A trip to Dierbergs was also fruitless. There I heard a customer to his wife, “We have to stock up on toilet paper.” Anxiety is in the air.
This week, confirmand David Moore picked his confirmation verse for the Palm Sunday ceremony. He chose 1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all of your anxiety on God because He cares for you.” I love this verse because it recognizes that anxiety is real. God doesn’t say anxiety is fake. He doesn’t say just have faith and ignore it. God says give him your anxiety. That’s great advice for a young confirmand and great for us as well.
On Sunday, we will be processing our thoughts on anxiety as well as digging into scripture. Don’t let corona virus steal your joy. Take necessary precautions but know God is in control. If you need to miss church because you are especially vulnerable, stay home with my blessing. If you aren’t especially vulnerable, I will see you in church on Sunday where we will cast our cares on the Lord.
