Glimpses of Glendale
Glendale Lutheran Church Newsletter
July 8, 2021
Over the next few weeks I’m making a plea for more worship volunteers. Covid reduced our need for them but now we are fully back. Please sign up on the kiosk for ushers, greeters, communion assistant, readers and sound/video person. By the way, kids can help their parents with any of these roles.

Today I want to talk about greeters. They situate themselves near Pastor Scott in the entrance to the building. They set the tone when people walk in the doors. When greeters smile it tells the worshipper that this is a welcoming place. You need the emotional intelligence to read people. Do they want a hand shake? A hug? Or just a smiling nod? Greeters who notice visitors invite them to sign the guest book or card so we know who they are.

Would you be surprised to know that greeters are mentioned in the Bible? At the end of Romans, Paul tells the church to “Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.” I don’t expect that kind of public display of affection but it shows you how important greeting is in the church. As I said above, greeting is great for families. It gives kids a job that they can do. Everyone loves seeing kids in the church and all they have to do is smile and wave. Thank you to all of our greeters! You are doing a wonderful job of welcoming people to God’s house!
Daily Bible Reading
July Food Drive at Glendale

It has been six months since our Holiday Food Drive. As you will see, the table is set up in the hall waiting to be loaded with our generous contributions to be delivered to Kirk Care in our neighborhood. Many in our area are still struggling with food for their meals as well as paper products, cleaning products, hygiene needs and diapers. Keith Rawlings, Youth in Action, informed us that some of the greater current needs are fruit cups and fruit juices. Whatever you want to contribute is wonderful.

Dollar Tree is a good source for many things, especially cleaning products and dish soap in small sizes. Remember NO GLASS. Of course, any of the food items you bought last Christmas can be useful this time as well.
If you would like to contribute but it is not convenient to bring food and/or paper products to church, you can give cash or checks to Marcia Hempel. Please make sure your name is attached to the monetary gift.

Collection began July 3 and will end July 31.
Collecting Reading Material

If anyone has magazines within the last 6 months, or any devotionals or books you’re wanting to throw out, Lauren Mistler would love to take them off your hands. Many nursing home patients would love more reading materials! Please contact lu.mis@att.net. Thank you!
