Ministry Moments

CHRISTIAN FRIENDS OF NEW AMERICANS
On October 17, 2021, a team from our congregation visited the Christian Friends of New Americans (CFNA) facility on South Grand as part of Glendale Lutheran Church’s Community Outreach and World Mission emphasis areas. CFNA partners with local Lutheran congregations, schools, and individuals, non-governmental organizations, and various grant-giving foundations to offer a range of programs and services for New Americans.

Glendale Lutheran Church’s team included the Murphys, the Boehmes, Jeanne Clark, Andrea Anderson and her friend, Jon Chapa, and Pastor Scott. As part of their visit, the group tutored about a half a dozen children, met an Afghan couple the congregation will be supporting, received an overview of the CFNA ministry from Rev. Stanish Stanley, and witnessed a part of CFNA’s ministry. This is only the beginning stage of our congregation’s partnership with CFNA and the next step will be to get to know the new couple’s needs. Thus far, there has been no cost to Glendale Lutheran Church related to this ministry.

OKTOBERFEST
On October 23, 2021, we had our Oktoberfest celebration that Sandy and Paul
Barbercheck, Tony Petzoldt, and Pastor Scott coordinated as part of Glendale Lutheran Church’s Facility and Members emphasis area. Sandy and Paul recruited members to set up the courtyard and Family Life Center while Tony recruited Derek Don, Ron Froesel, Ken Clark, Mike Toney, John Steele, Jon Schultz, Jack Hurley, and Andy Ryan to make bratwurst. Seventy people
attended the event, which helped build fellowship among and deepened relationships between members. We even had some friends, family, and neighbors join us. The only cost to the congregation was offering to reimburse Tony for the cost of the sausage and the beer.

Seminary Families Tree

Our Seminary Families Tree in the back of church is decorated with ornaments with the names of the children of seminarians, the moms and dads, and the families. Please select an ornament, if you wish to participate, and purchase a gift for the child, adult or family whose name is on the ornament. Wrap the gift and place it under the tree with their name and your name and address on it by Sunday, December 12. The gifts will be delivered to the families that week. The seminary families really appreciate our thoughtfulness and generosity in making this Christmas extra special for the families. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Skouby.
Poinsettias

Order forms for Christmas Poinsettias are by the mailboxes, or you can just email the office (glendalelutheranchurch@gmail.com) and tell Michelle how many you want to purchase. Poinsettias may be taken home following the 9:15am service on Christmas Day.
