Glimpses of Glendale
Glendale Lutheran Church Newsletter
January 20, 2022
You’ve hopefully seen our first year seminary fieldworker Jon Chapa and his wife, Stephanie. We have great news! Glendale Lutheran is hiring Stephanie as a part time Director of Christian Education. She graduated last year with a DCE degree from Concordia, Nebraska. That included a one year internship at an LCMS congregation. She’s been trained in education and church ministry.

This is too good an opportunity! God has placed the Chapas in our midst for the next four years and we need to use their gifts. I approached Jon and Stephanie last year, inquiring about their openness to it. They loved the idea. The council and the elders approved a 6 hour a week position. Stephanie works for CCLS in the preschool at Glendale in the afternoon.

We have been meeting the last two weeks to plan. She will create a once a month event, focusing on young families. Her first event will be a valentine’s servant event on February 6th during Adult Bible Class. Everyone will be invited to get to know Stephanie and make valentines for CCLS families. Then on Saturday March 26th, Stephanie will host a Big Playdate for families with young children in the Gym. We’ll have a bounce house and fun games and CCLS and Glendale families will be invited. Stephanie will also support the Cosbys with Sunday School, subbing when they need a break. This Sunday, Stephanie will reintroduce herself to the congregation during announcements. Let’s show our appreciation to the Chapas.

Annual Report

Glendale Lutheran's 2020-2021 Annual Report has been published. Hard copies are located on the wall next to the staff and council mailboxes, or it can be accessed via the "Annual Report" link on our website, or by clicking here.
Birthday Bags!

It is soon to be February and we will be gathering all the goodies for BIRTHDAY BAGS. For the 7th Year! There is a change. We will no longer be gathering food for the meal plans for the month of February.

One concern is if Glendale is assigned a family from CFNA for us to sponsor, it might conflict with the Meal contributions to our family. Also, our connection at Operation Food Search said that focusing on the bags would be more helpful to them because they have fewer contributions of bags this year. She was very pleased that Glendale will be contributing because the bags we send are so beautiful.

If it is difficult for you to get out to shop but you want to contribute to the gifting to children, you can leave money in an envelop in my mail box (Hempel) or Michelle's (church Secretary) or Pastor Scotts'. Be sure to mark for Birthday Bags and put your name on them if you want the amount listed on your contribution report.

I am hoping that we will have the usual generous contributions to share with these children who have very little. Thank you!

Meet Steph Chapa: Faith, Hope, Love, & Valentines!

Hi there! I am really excited to be partnering and growing with you in Christ’s love! Speaking of love, here at church we have the amazing opportunity to share the love of Jesus with our CCLS Glendale kids by using their own theme verse from 1 Corinthians 13:13! “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Therefore, on Sunday, February 6 after church in the Family Life Center, we all will be making Valentines for our precious little ones that attend school in our building! This will be a great chance for you and I to get to know each other a little more, spend time in God’s Word surrounding this Bible passage, and make Valentines that the kids will absolutely cherish. It is so encouraging that we have the ability to serve our CCLS family by sharing the love of Christ and the Glendale Church Family in such a fun and meaningful way. Hope to see you February 6th!
Looking for an In-Home Childcare Provider

This may be an unconventional request, but we know that often our friends and fellow congregation members have great recommendations or know someone in a particular field. So here we go . . . We are looking for an in-home childcare provider (daycare or babysitter) for our baby boy. Our sitter had some things come up and is unable to babysit. If you know anyone who provides childcare in their home in the Glendale, Kirkwood, Webster, Fenton, Maplewood, or Clayton area, we would love to talk with you and hear your recommendations! Please call Johanna Sowers at (314) 712-0522. Thank you!
Altar Flower Sign-Up
