Glimpses of Glendale

Last Sunday I emphasized the READ in Faith 5, a simple 5 step system for sharing faith with your household every day. 1. Share highs and lows; 2. Read a Bible verse or story; 3. Talk about the Bible; 4. Pray for one another; and 5. Bless each other. Reading the Bible together is something that the church has done from the beginning. Families read Bible stories in order to pass on the faith.

I talked to one of our families who have been reading biblical poems from CPH’s Icky, Sticky, Scary Bible Stories to their son every night. My family watches a video from www.bibleproject.com. Other Glendale families read Portals of Prayer together. Other families go over the daily Bible readings in the bulletin or glimpses. Others have a different bible reading plan that they go over as a couple. It doesn’t matter what part of the Bible. It doesn’t matter how long you spend on it. What matters is that you practice a daily habit of sharing the scriptures. It allows God to form you and bring you closer together.

I’d love to hear your stories about how reading the scriptures with your family have affected you. Call me or email me your stories. It could also be how your family read the scriptures together growing up. Faith 5 is just another way of continuing the tradition of the church. We are people of the word.
