Glimpses of Glendale
Glendale Lutheran Church Newsletter
November 4, 2021
Last Sunday I heard words that warmed my heart. Johanna Sowers came up to me after service and said, “I have to share with you what Addie said just now. We were in the pew and she looked up at me and said, ‘Momma, I love church!” There are no better words to hear as a parent or a pastor.

The biggest indicator that a child will grow up and remain in the faith is engaged faithful parents. The second biggest indicator is other adults in a church who have a relationship with the child. We don’t have a lot of kids in our church right now. That just means that every kid in our congregation should have a dozen grandmas and grandpas. Children love it when adults show interest in them.

We have some who give the children candy. We have some who lead Children’s messages. Just going up to one of our kids and saying, “I love seeing you in church” can make a difference. It also helps to encourage our parents. Let them know that they are doing a wonderful job. We may not have the children’s programs of a large church but we have kids who are loved by Jesus and by our church family.

David and Rachel Baker Bequest Contribution

The Congregation at the October 17, 2021, Voters’ Meeting approved contributing $10,000 from our Bequest Fund to David and Rachel Baker and their family’s ministry in Mongolia. The Bakers’ ministry focuses on serving the Lord and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Central Asia and our congregation has provided regular support for their efforts from our annual budget. We have enjoyed their several visits with us over the years as they shared the successes and challenges this ministry provided.

The goal for our gift is to advance our world mission emphasis area. Of the $10,000 contribution, $6,000 was given to David to retire a loan from his father-in-law. Time was of the essence and this loan allowed a building to be secured before the opportunity was lost. The building now provides a needed center for worships and fellowship. We became aware of this situation during David’s last visit with us this summer when the transaction was just mentioned during our conversations.

David was totally surprised and grateful for this gift and would love for us to know how our contribution empowers his ministry in a specific way. He has asked us to hold the remaining $4,000 until he can articulate a special need as his family returns to Mongolia. We look forward to hearing more about the Bakers’ ministry as God continues to bless their efforts.
Deacon Ministry

DON’T GIVE UP!

YOU’RE ENOUGH!

Maybe you have seen signs like these along the road in people’s yards. It could be helpful and rewarding to start a Christian Sign Ministry – if someone like you was so inspired. What might Christian signs say?

YOU ARE PRECIOUS TO GOD!

COME TO ME AND FIND REST!

YOUR SINS ARE FORGIVEN!

YOU ARE LOVED!

THE PEACE OF THE LORD IS WITH YOU.

What is the message you need to see on a sign? You might not see it on a sign, but you could hear it from a deacon.
