Lenten Series - Places of the Passion

This year's Lenten series is drawn from Luke's account of our Lord's Passion. Each week, a different section of the Gospel is read; and each week, Luke will take us to a different place-the Places of the Passion. However, the focus will not be on those physical places. Instead, throughout the series, the hearer is invited to gaze in wonder on the spiritual work that our Lord does in those places. Jesus will share His strength in our times of weakness. When Jesus enters a place, He never leaves it as He found it. The most troubling places in our lives become the most amazing places of God's grace when Jesus visits them. Week after week, hearers will enter the places of the Passion, only to discover their Lord . . . waiting for them . . . willing to share with them a love that was set in place before the foundations of the world.
  • Holy Thursday (Luke 22:7-23) "The Last Supper: A Place of Forgiveness"
  • Good Friday (Luke 23:44-49) "Golgotha: A Place of Simple Love"
  • Easter (Luke 24:1-11) "The Empty Tomb: A Place of Remembering"
Stewardship Sentence

Matthew 21:3 "If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord needs them,' and he will send them at once." Did Jesus really need the donkey? If the man had refused to give the donkey would the work of salvation have been derailed? Of course not. But what an honor for the man who owned this donkey and foal! Likewise with us - the Lord needs none of us, but what an honor for God to choose to use our generosity in the work of His Church.

Women's Evening Bible Study
The Thursday evening Bible study began a new study on February 18. The study guide is "God's Love Through You: A Guide to 1 John." All women are welcome; gathering together is a great opportunity to share prayer concerns and be strengthened by God's Work and by each other. Eighteen women currently are a part of this group; not all can attend every time and that is understood. We meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:00pm.

Women's Tuesday Morning Bible Study
Beginning Tuesday, February 23 at 9:15am we started a new seven week Bible study. Please consider joining us as we explore "Discerning the Voice of God" presented by Priscilla Shirer. Through this study you will become more familiar with God's Holy Spirit, His character, language, and tone of voice. Call Carol Froesel or Jeanne Clark if you have any questions.

Holy Week Worship Schedule

Maundy Thursday - 7:00pm
Good Friday - 7:00pm
Holy Saturday - 5:00pm
Easter Sunday - ONE SERVICE ONLY - 9:15am
Please note that the Easter Sunday service time is a change from what was previously announced. This also affects the Easter Breakfast, which will now take place immediately BEFORE the service, rather than between services as originally announced. Thank you!

Youth News
Easter Breakfast

This year's Easter Breakfast is sponsored by the GLC Youth! If you'd like to donate one of the 18 egg casseroles we need, please sign up on the kiosk at church. Planning to join us? The same sign-up sheet has a spot for your family name and how many will be attending so we have an idea for planning purposes. A free will offering will be taken at the Easter Breakfast. All funds raised will go towards sending GLC Youth to the National Youth Gathering this summer.
Thank you!

Worship Leaders through April
We are continuing our trial usage of Volunteer Spot. All services through April are now available as sign-up spots. The Worship Committee will still fill in any open spots from the lists of volunteers, so if you have a known conflict, selecting a spot well in advance might prevent some last-minute switching needs.

Please sign up here. If you prefer, you can call Michelle in the office to get your name on the schedule. Thank you!

Children's Worship Materials
We are looking for someone to take charge of the children's worship materials at the back  of the church. This would entail periodically checking the bags to ensure each is stocked with paper, crayons, etc. If you are interesting in serving this way, please contact the church office.

Two Twelve Cup Coffee Makers

Two new in the box coffee makers stored in the lower cabinets in the Youth room have been misplaced. If anyone knows where they may be found please inform Michelle in the church office

110 Responders to the GLC Vision Survey! Thanks!

110 members of the GLC family responded to the vision survey. Outstanding! We on the Vision Task Force are very thankful and grateful to you. Thanks! What happens now? The Vision Task Force will meet Monday evening, March 14 in order to do a complete review of the data and prepare for the next step. The Vision Task Force will present the results to the Leadership Council at its meeting on March 21. We then intend to present the results to the congregation on April 17. The result should then lead us into a planning process to help us achieve, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, what we wish for Glendale in 2021.

Table of Duties

Certain Passages of Scripture for Various Holy Orders and Positions, by Which These People Are to Be Admonished, as a Special Lesson, about Their Office and Service

For Male and Female Servants, Hired Men, and Laborers

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free. (Ephesians 6:5-8; see also Colossians 3:22)

For Masters and Mistresses

Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with Him. (Ephesians 6:9; see also Colossians 4:1)
