Pastor Scott's Message Music is a huge part of our church. We are blessed to have Jim Thielker who energetically plays and maintains the organ and piano, leads the choir, picks music, and performs concerts twice a year. But we depend on volunteers to gift us with their beautiful voices and music ability. We make a joyful noise to the Lord and it encourages us in the pews at the same time. We have three ways you can volunteer in the music department: choir member, special music and Hymnody committee. Our current choir members are Beth and Jerry Nicolaus, John and Kathy Bruchere, Al Grimm, Jean and Garrett Das, Joan Schlichter, Sue Schmidt, Cindy Smith, Marcia Hempel, Judy Thielker, Tori Williams, Karen Ratterman, Vickie Devenport, Steve Phelps, and Julie Wise. We can always use more. It meets starting in the Fall on Wednesday nights. For those who can't commit to the choir, we have special music. God has blessed us with instrumentalists like Layton Willie, Gwen Pieper, Jean Das, Joan Schlichter, and Bill Lubben. We also have people who sing solos and duets. I am very grateful for anyone that brave and that talented. Finally, we have our Hymnody Committee. Beth Nicolaus, Joan Schlichter, Mary Ann Crabtree, Charlotte Moret, Tracey Orstadt, myself and Jim have met every couple of months to chose music for Sundays. We pick according to liturgical calendar, sermon topic, singability, familiarity and variety. If you are interested in giving your input contact me at scottjonas314@gmail.com. Thank you Lord for music. |
Glimpses from the Homefront April 7, 1945, France
...I received two copies in two days of INKLINKS, they tell us our mail is airlifted over here...we know better! Wish they would hire a better swimmer...wish INKLINKS all the best, and hope I continue to receive a copy. This is just the type of news we are always eager to get...information on all my buddies is up to date. He is in hospital and responds to her question about the pretty nurse, says...It isn't any attraction to the nurses for me but his attraction to metal...thinks he maybe swallowed a magnet when a child...He zigged when he should have zagged...hopes he never has the need to occupy another of Uncle's nice homey hospitals...Hoping to gaze upon the big city of Glendale soon! In 1954, the Glendale Lutheran Sunday School children donated $100 to the missionary work of Dr. Albert Schweitzer in Africa. |
The quilt hanging by the Cry Room in the Sanctuary is on loan from former members Terry and Junette Higgins and their family Lisa and Corey. It was lovingly stitched by the ladies of Glendale and was presented to them when they moved away to California in 1986. |

Yard Work Volunteer Wanted We are looking for a volunteer to maintain the boxwood bushes on our campus. Bushes should be trimmed as necessary (2 to 3 times per year). It is estimated to take two to three hours to trim. We will provide a cordless trimmer unless you prefer to use you own. Please let Michelle know if you are willing to take responsibility for this seasonal task. |
