One Family Bible Class
Have you ever had a difficult decision to make? Have you ever struggled with contentment? Did life become difficult and it just doesn't seem fair? Perhaps we can learn something from Joseph, Jesus' step father. Join us in the Family Life Center for the next 4 Sundays (8/14, 8/21, 8/28, and 9/4) for a video based Bible study from Lutheran Hour Ministries' Men's Network entitled: "Joseph: Carpenter of Steel."

Stewardship Sentence
Luke 12:51 "Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division." Jesus has come to divide us out of the world - to carve out a people for Himself, redeemed by His Blood and trusting His Word. The world hates this Word, but for us it is life and salvation. We seek to follow Jesus' Word in all things because we know Him who gave us the Word: we know He always seeks to bless us.
Annual Picnic
August 28th will be a very special Sunday. First, we will have a special service recognizing and honoring Glendale's police and firefighters and thanking them for their service. The annual church picnic will follow on the front lawn. There will be games for the kids and entertainment for the adults. The Maple Jam Band will share their gift of music at the picnic. Hot dogs, etc. will be provided. Plan to bring a dish to share at the picnic. It promises to be a great day.
Leadership/Elder Nominations
The Leadership Council is seeking two candidates to serve three-year terms on Leadership Council and two candidates to serve three-year terms as Elders. The terms are set to begin in October 2016. Please let Andy Ryan know any recommendations you have for nominees. He can be reached at 314-446-4208 (office phone) or at 314-398-7505 (cell phone), or by email at aryan@sandbergphoenix.com. The Leadership Council and Elders appreciate the Congregation's support in filling these important positions.

Church Family Potlucks
Join us August 17 for another potluck dinner! Fellowship begins at 6:00pm, and dinner starts at 6:30pm. Bring a dish to share and a healthy appetite. See you there! The next potluck after this one will be September 21.
Outreach

Check out the Latest Baker Bulletin
The latest newsletter from David Baker in Mongolia is now posted on the Outreach bulletin board. Please take a moment to stop and read it. David tells about a wonderful interaction with a young Muslim man and how he became a Christian.

Prayer requests from David:
  • Pray for "White Blessing" and that his new faith grows and that he be protected as he enters the military
  • Pray for the registration process for their newest congregation
  • Pray for Nazerke who was just married
Orphan Grain Train
The regional branch of Orphan Grain Train (OGT) here in St. Louis is seeking a new home. For 16 years OGT has successfully operated out of the old Concordia Seminary building, owned by Holy Cross in south St. Louis. Due to advances for ministry in that area, Holy Cross now needs the space, and while we are pleased for their opportunity, it leaves OGT without a local "home" for special ministry to the needy.

OGT has until the end of September to relocate. If you have any leads on a usable space (8,500 would be ideal) in a decent an workable locale, let me know. We have a shoestring budget and would do well to have as much support (and benefits) as possible to make this happen. Otherwise, OGT in this part of the Midwest will go dormant, meaning that at least 6 food pantries will not be supplied food and goods via OGT. It also means local OGT support for overseas outreach to Mongolia, Latvia, Africa, and South America (all points that have benefitted from OGT's ministry efforts) will be on hold for an indefinite time.

We are seeking options for a new home that may be used a minimum of 2 or 3  years at which time we can evaluate the situation. We are willing to explore donations at least to cover the cost of utilities. To accommodate 14 freezer/cooling units we may be willing to meet the cost of extra electrical improvements to the facility. Ideally, we plan to use hand-operated pallet jacks to move material onto the premises and to store pallets until shipments are made. We will need access to a kitchen sink large enough to allow the washing of items in preparation for shipping. We are ideally seeking an entryway on the first floor that can allow for a pallet to enter. A loading dock (or its equivalent) would be ideal. We are flexible given the circumstance, and can discuss options for use upon visiting the site.

Blessings!
