Pastor Scott's Message
We've all watched in horror this week the fallout of the mass shooting in Las Vegas. It makes my stomach turn just thinking about the pain and suffering that one man caused on his fellow human beings. Almost 60 families have lost a loved one. Hundreds of people's bodies were maimed. What can we say in the face of this momentous tragedy?

Glendale Lutheran is flying our flag at half-mast to mourn with those who mourn. We want our community to know that we grieve with the people of Las Vegas. It may not sound like much but empathy is the first step. This forces us to look at humanity again and see that we are capable of great evil and great good. The shooter violated God's law. He brought death and destruction in a matter of minutes. He went down the Devil's path. Yet, there were people who went the opposite path. Heroes risked their life for strangers. Police and security ran towards gunfire. Ordinary folks shielded others, ran back for the fallen and stayed with the dying.

Both God and the devil were working that day. The devil wanted to tear lives apart. God wanting to put lives back together. The devil is no match for the Lord. Satan is a wild dog but God is mightier. One day the wild dog will be chained up for good. Until that day, we fight evil and cling to good.

Annual Report
Four tumultuous years have passed since we created an "annual" report. We have corrected this lapse and are committed not to let this happen again. Generating an annual report is an important exercise for us in that it allows us to think, reflect, and evaluate to what degree we are being successful and true to our stated mission as a congregation.

A report has been prepared and is now available covering our activities since our last formal report on the 2012/2013 fiscal year. The report is designed to update members on the congregation's mission and ministry, including a review of developments with our staff, our Faith Formation and Christian Education Ministry, and our membership and worship participation. The report also contains a financial overview of our assets, liabilities, annual income, and expenses, with a discussion of how our financial condition has improved over the past four years. Further, the report includes a review of our baptisms, confirmations, transfers in and out of our congregation, and deaths. Finally, the report explains activities associated with managing our sanctuary and campus buildings.
We encourage everyone to obtain and read a copy of the report, which can be found on the table in the back of the sanctuary. We are grateful to Jerry Nicolaus, Mike Toney, Steve Albers, Andy Ortstadt, and Michelle Fiala for their hard work in compiling the information included in the report and then generating a document that is both informative and uplifting.
Thank You!
Bill Lubben is playing his last Sunday for Glendale on October 8. We are so very grateful for his willingness to carry our music worship forward during the past couple of months and appreciate his joyful presence. He and Judy will be greatly missed as they venture forth to Texas, but we hope to see them again! (By the way, don't tell anyone but the 8th of October is Bill's birthday, so we will send him off with birthday wishes and a small celebration after the service on that Sunday!)
Voters' Meeting
A Special Voters' Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 22, 2017, in the sanctuary immediately following service to elect Elders and Leadership Council members. Sandy Barbercheck and Jeff Wille have been nominated to renew their service on the Council for additional three-year terms. We will provide you with Elder candidates when we finalize the nominees. Additionally, we are pleased to announce Thomas Schultz will be joining the Leadership Council as a nonvoting member.

Please plan on attending the Meeting to provide any additional nominations you may have and to vote on these Elder and Leadership positions.
Knoble Knotters
Seven quilts on the pews were made by Marilyn Young. Our thanks to her. The rest were made by several Glendale members, and we could make more next year if more came to help on the second Thursday of the month! We start between 1:00-1:30pm. Hope to see you on October 12. You can also help by cutting fabric into triangles at home! Call Shirley Williams at 968-0368 if you have any questions.
Message from the Kattentidts
We want to express our deep thanks for all the cards, visits, and calls during Vivian's recovery. She is still recuperating from her hip surgery so we appreciate everyone's continued prayers. Our church family is such a blessing to us and we are so grateful for everything.
