Join us in the Family Life Center over the next 4 weeks as we study "The Intersection of Church and State." This is an award winning, video based Bible study produced by Lutheran Hour Ministries. With issues of religious freedom becoming more and more prevalent it is important to understand what God's Word has to say about the Church and the state. Join us. Stewardship Sentence Luke 12:24 "Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them." God feeds the birds of the air - this we know, it's just that, as one wit put it: God sometimes feeds the birds....to the cats! Yes, crosses and hardships will always come, Christ said that no disciple is above his Master. But through it all, the Lord cares for us and He calls upon us to trust to that care. He really is our Father, and He really will guard and keep us through whatever this life has to throw at us. And in the end, we shall receive the gift of eternal life. | A Note from Pastor Wise I want to thank all of you for your cards, thoughts, kind and encouraging words, and especially your prayers. They truly make a difference. Thank you. Right now I am waiting to go through one more "staging" test, an endoscopic ultrasound scheduled for the 12th. After that, the doctors will determine the exact course and timing of treatment which will include surgery and chemotherapy. Tests, so far, have revealed a tumor in the upper part of the stomach near the esophagus. Last week, PET and CAT scans revealed that there is also involvement of the lymph nodes around the stomach, but all other organs appear to be unaffected. I will keep everyone posted as I learn more. Thanks again for all of the support. In Christ, Pastor Wise

Annual Picnic August 28th will be a very special Sunday. First, we will have a special service recognizing and honoring Glendale's police and firefighters and thanking them for their service. The annual church picnic will follow on the front lawn. There will be games for the kids and entertainment for the adults. The Maple Jam Band will share their gift of music at the picnic. Hot dogs, etc. will be provided. Plan to bring a dish to share at the picnic. It promises to be a great day. |

Orphan Grain Train The regional branch of Orphan Grain Train (OGT) here in St. Louis is seeking a new home. For 16 years OGT has successfully operated out of the old Concordia Seminary building, owned by Holy Cross in south St. Louis. Due to advances for ministry in that area, Holy Cross now needs the space, and while we are pleased for their opportunity, it leaves OGT without a local "home" for special ministry to the needy. OGT has until the end of September to relocate. If you have any leads on a usable space (8,500 would be ideal) in a decent an workable locale, let me know. We have a shoestring budget and would do well to have as much support (and benefits) as possible to make this happen. Otherwise, OGT in this part of the Midwest will go dormant, meaning that at least 6 food pantries will not be supplied food and goods via OGT. It also means local OGT support for overseas outreach to Mongolia, Latvia, Africa, and South America (all points that have benefitted from OGT's ministry efforts) will be on hold for an indefinite time. We are seeking options for a new home that may be used a minimum of 2 or 3 years at which time we can evaluate the situation. We are willing to explore donations at least to cover the cost of utilities. To accommodate 14 freezer/cooling units we may be willing to meet the cost of extra electrical improvements to the facility. Ideally, we plan to use hand-operated pallet jacks to move material onto the premises and to store pallets until shipments are made. We will need access to a kitchen sink large enough to allow the washing of items in preparation for shipping. We are ideally seeking an entryway on the first floor that can allow for a pallet to enter. A loading dock (or its equivalent) would be ideal. We are flexible given the circumstance, and can discuss options for use upon visiting the site. Blessings! Dr. Gerald Perschbacher Board member, OGT Missouri-Illinois Division
