Pastor Biermann's Message
Last week, I asked you to save the date. The date is Saturday, February 18th, and the event is a seminar called, "Making the Case for Character" that will be held at Glendale Lutheran Church from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. I'm excited to present this seminar at Glendale. It's a time of teaching and learning that I developed after my book, A Case for Character was published in 2014. I had the opportunity to lead the seminar over 30 times at sites all over the country. Now, I'm looking forward to sharing the material with all of you--along with some new thoughts and emphases, of course!

The idea is relatively simple: great character is the vital component of a great person, and great character does not just "happen." Great character is crafted and formed. The ancient Greeks were well aware of these truths-but the concept of character formation is also quite consistent with Christian faith and practice. My goal in the seminar is to provide a foundation for thinking about character, discuss concrete ways of instilling and forming character, suggest specific practices for shaping character, and offer encouragement for parents, grandparents, and others in the work of character formation.

Everyone high-school-aged and older will find something of interest and benefit in the seminar. It should offer some lively learning, and some interesting discussion. In addition to the teaching, a lunch will be provided, and there will be opportunities for fellowship and conversation. I hope that you'll make time to attend the event. It will be an investment not only in your own Christian walk, but in the character and so the most important part of the lives of those you love. Please come, and please invite others from outside the immediate Glendale family to join you. There's no charge for the event, but it will help with the planning if you will let us know that you are coming. Please contact Michelle in the church office, or myself.

Bible Class and Sunday School
Join us as we grow in our faith and knowledge of God's word.

Stewardship Sentence
Matthew 8:8 But the centurion replied, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed." The Word of the Lord is powerful and effective. What God says, goes. "Let there be light." And there was light. His Word is still effective and creative for us: "This is my Body given for you." "Your sins are forgiven." This is why it is no burden for us to live according to the Word of God: we know that His Word is always bent on our blessing.
Pastoral Care Special Voters' Meeting
Please remember we have a Special Voters' Meeting scheduled for this Sunday, January 22, 2017, in the Sanctuary immediately after service to vote on forming a call committee for the purpose of calling a lead pastor for GLC. The question that will be put to a vote is, "Shall we form a call committee for the purpose of calling a lead pastor to GLC?"

Our Church Bylaws provide you must be in attendance to vote on the proposal.  We look forward to everyone's participation.
