Pastor Scott's Message
Sunday is our annual church picnic and outdoor worship service, 9:15 at Kirkwood Park in the Lions Pavilion near the tennis courts.  It is a great opportunity for the church to be visible. We will be without our sanctuary yet we will have all of the marks of the church on display. We will proclaim the Gospel, confess the creed, and share the Lord's Supper. I've always regretted that sanctuaries tend to hide worship from the public. There will be no hiding next Sunday. Hymns will be sung and the cross will be front and center.
We also get to worship together under a blanket of God's creation. I love that. To be connected to creation, God and one another is the best feeling there is. The trees, flowers and water can praise the Lord along with us. Then afterwards, we get to share a picnic meal. Tony is making brats. Chicken is coming as well. People with the last name starting with A-L get to bring side dish to share. Those with last names M-Z bring dessert. Drinks will be provided. Thank you to Sue Schultz for helping me. Bring lawn chairs for the worship service. And someone please bring deviled eggs. Your Pastor loves them. We are having our usual Saturday evening worship at 5pm for those who can't make it on Sunday

Received your fine paper day before we sailed from one place to another, cannot say where...no mail for 6 to 7 weeks....when we did get mail again...we got mail...your InkLinks among the letters with all the home town news...one swell thing about your paper is the news of Glendale...It is a really great idea, thank you for remembering me on your list.

Operation Christmas Child
It's that time again! Christmas! Time to start shopping for school supply bargains to fill our Operation Christmas Child boxes. As you might have noticed, there is a table of "goodies" in the Fellowship Room to help you fill those boxes. Please take as many boses and fillers as you would be willing to make up for children all over the world. Last year over 11 million gifts went to over 200 countries to express the love of Christ to the underprivileged and, more importantly, many unbelievers.
Each box is opened, inspected, and a Bible study is included. Just try to imagine the dedicated hands doing such an enormous job!
There are cardboard boxes (to be assembled) as well as instructions and suggestions as to what is appropriate to include. You can also use plastic shoe boxes. This year we cannot include candy or toothpaste due to customs regulations in several countries.
Please include a $9 donation if possible in each box to defray the cost of shipping. Do not tape shut--use rubber bands instead. Last year we donated 68 boxes and I pray that this year we can touch even more kids with love, hope, and prayers.
Blessings on your efforts. Contact Carol Froesel (822-1365) with any questions!
Rummage Sale Thanks
Once again we were able to realize over $2,000 in sales. Thank you to those who spent some lonely hours sorting items through the week. Thank you to those who faithfully endured the sale hours to monitor and collect all that cash. Special thanks to all those who showed up after the sale. All those fresh hands together with some of the long suffering sale volunteers made short work of cleaning up all those left overs. Some items were sold at Play It Again, some donated to Hidden Gems, some set aside for later distribution to Concordia Seminary and International Student Ministry, and the remaining taken in several loads to Goodwill. We are actively looking for someone who is willing to organize the sale for next year. The job is well documented. All you need to do is add your special touch. Please talk with the Pastor or Michelle to find out more.
Faith Support for Individuals with Loved Ones in Jail
Through his role as Chaplain for the St. Louis County Jail, Pastor Vince Stanley has recognized the emotional stress placed on individuals and families when a loved one is in jail or prison. As a way to offer anonymous and confidential faith-based support for individuals who have loved ones currently or formerly incarcerated, Pastor Stanley will facilitate a one-hour support session on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00pm at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood. Please join this session and share this invitation with others who might benefit.
Notes from the Music Director
Sing! Sing! Sing! Choir! Choir! Choir! The first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, August 29 at 7:00pm in the Choir Room. I have chosen an outstanding program this fall including 6 new anthems!
Come and see--come and sing! The choir sings 3 Sundays each month. If you have doubts about your singing ability please call or see me--in less than two minutes I can determine your voice range and will be happy to "blend you in" with the very dedicated regular choir members!
     Please read Psalms 147-150.
Yard Work Volunteer Wanted
We are looking for a volunteer to maintain the boxwood bushes on our campus. Bushes should be trimmed as necessary (2 to 3 times per year). It is estimated to take two to three hours to trim. We will provide a cordless trimmer unless you prefer to use you own. Please let Michelle know if you are willing to take responsibility for this seasonal task.
