Pastor Scott's Message

This is a week to celebrate transitions! The McCarty family is transitioning to a call in Florida and our graduates are transitioning to a new stage in life. This Sunday we will formally say Goodbye to Nathan MCCarty, our fieldworker. Erica, his wife, is a trained Director of Christian Education but has embraced her vocation as full time mom of Joy, Mia and Hilton. They have blessed us over the course of four years. Nathan is going to be a great pastor. He has a heart for people and Jesus. You’ve heard him preach and teach and know as well as I that he is gifted. Erica is giving the Children’s message this Sunday so you will see that we didn’t get to see all of her many talents. Joy lives up to her name. I loved seeing her play with kids at potlucks and listen to Bible stories with Mr. Cosby. Mia and Hilton brought out the best in us. It warmed my heart every time I looked down from the pulpit and saw one of you holding the babies. It showed Erica and Nathan support, the kids affection and our congregation that kids are welcomed and adored at Glendale Lutheran.

We have many graduations as well. Caitlin Eads is graduating from Kansas U with a Masters of Architecture. Grant Lee is graduating from Lutheran High South and attending the University of Kentucky. His brother Adam graduated from Butler University with a degree in Finance and Marketing. Tori Williams received her Associate Arts degree from Meramac and is going to Webster to study Dramaturgy. My own two daughters graduated. Faith from LHSS and Grace from Meramac. They both are going to Concordia Seward Nebraska in the fall: Grace to study secondary education and Faith elementary education. I thank the Lord for all of our grads and I hope God gives them wisdom as they pursue next steps. On Sunday we will pray over our graduates.

As for my daughters, I couldn’t be prouder. You may have noticed that I end every sermon with the words “By Grace through Faith.” That is a reference to Ephesians 2:8-9 “By Grace you have been saved through faith.” But it also is a shout out to my daughters. Ann and I named them Grace and Faith because we wanted their names to point them to Jesus. He has filled them with Faith and Grace. We are proud of the faithful adults they have become. I am blessed that they want to be Lutheran teachers. Some school is going to get wonderful teachers someday, hopefully in St. Louis.
