Pastor Biermann's Message
In the days of sailing ships, "the doldrums" was the name given to the region around the equator that suffered from light and unpredictable wins that made for difficult or impossible sailing. No sailor wanted to be caught in the doldrums. In our day, no person wants to be caught in the doldrums; but winter often seems to make it exceedingly difficult to avoid that trapped, listless, hemmed-in feeling of malaise. I'm quite committed to the idea that a Christian always has plenty of reason to greet each day with grateful exuberance. Being in the doldrums and being following Christ are somewhat antithetical, I think. Still, it doesn't hurt to have something out of the ordinary on the calendar to spice up an otherwise bleak winter-especially in a year when Easter is late, and Ash Wednesday doesn't arrive until spring is already in the air. So, in an effort to do my part...

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday February 18
(Find out more details this Sunday.)

There, now I've injected a small gust of fresh air into the winter doldrums. You've got something to wonder about, today, one more thing to look forward to this Sunday, and an event to add to your calendar that will be waiting for you through the worst of winter's dreariness. I'll see you on Sunday.

Pastoral Care Informational Meeting & Special Voters' Meeting
Please remember the Leadership Council and Elders will be leading a conversational/information meeting this Sunday, January 15, 2017, in the Sanctuary immediately after service to hear your questions and comments on our recommendation that we proceed with calling a lead pastor to focus principally on community outreach and revitalization and to assume some of Pastor Wise's current responsibilities.  We will then have a Special Voters' Meeting the following Sunday, January 22, 2017, in the Sanctuary following the service that morning to vote on approval or rejection of our recommendation.

We look forward to everyone's participation and input.

Bible Class and Sunday School
Bible Class and Sunday School resumes January 8. Join us as we grow in our faith and knowledge of God's word.

Stewardship Sentence
Ephesians 5:27 "...so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish." Our Lord has cleansed us with His blood - in His sight we are now pure and holy. He has given Himself, laying down His life for us. Now we are his spotless and beautiful bride. By His sacrifice, we are moved to sacrifice. By His cleansing, we find a desire to ourselves be clean and live blamelessly as He is blameless.
