First Reading – Acts 6
+Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.
+And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.
+And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. Epistle – 1 Peter 4:12-19
+Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And
“If the righteous is scarcely saved,what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.

Apostles' Creed
C:+I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
+And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

Congratulations to Glendale Lutheran Church Graduates!

Garrett Das graduated from Westminster College with a BA in Transnational Studies and a minor in history. He is exploring options, hoping to get some type of internship in the fall to gain work experience.

Justin Eads is graduating from Quincy University with a BS in Finance. He plans to continue his studies at Quincy University, going for his MBA.

Kate Mullersman is graduating from the University of Chicago Medical School. She will continue her education at Mass. General in Boston with a residency in psychiatry. 

Grace Ortstadt is graduating from Webster Groves High School. Her plans are to attend Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis to study Nursing and/or Forensic Science. 

Miles Sauer has graduated from Lindbergh High School. Miles is going to Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri to study film, scriptwriting, and possibly biology and/or English. He has a wide variety of interests so we will see where God leads him. 

Abbie Schultz is graduating from Lutheran High School South. Abbie will be attending the University of Mississippi this fall, where she will study Integrated Marketing Communications as she pursues a career in Marketing.

Andrew Schultz graduated from Truman State University with a BS in Business Finance. He will be moving to Buffalo, New York in July.

Luke Schultz graduated from Lindbergh School District. He will attend St. Louis Community College in the Fall.

Brian Skouby is graduating from Lutheran High School South. He plans to attend Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, majoring in Engineering.

Sarah Skouby is graduating from Lutheran High School South. She plans to attend Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.

Layton Wille is graduating from Lindbergh High School. He will attend college at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, where he will play on the Men's Tennis Team.

So this Sunday is our soft reopening for worship in the sanctuary. It’s very exciting but want to both assure you and caution you. I assure you that we are trying our best to make thing safe. If you feel like God is calling you to come back then we are here. But I caution you that for many of our older members it may not be time yet. This is a decision between you and God and there is no judgment from me either way. 

I’ve had over thirty people tell me they are coming on Sunday. I expect us to have around fifty on Sunday, well below the 75 maximum. It is also OK to come and not take communion. We will all take baby steps towards full engagement in our usual worship. Here once again are the things I ask you to consider for Sunday morning:
 
  • Make sure you are healthy Sunday morning.

  • The front doors will remain open before, during and after service to minimize contact.

  • No greeters or ushers.

  • Sit in pews that have the hearts posted in them. (Thanks, Lisa)

  • We will have a maximum of 75 people in the sanctuary. (Based off County Guidelines)

  • Congregants are welcome to use a mask.

  • Every other pew will be unused to create a buffer.

  • Households will sit at least 6 feet away from other households.

  • Bulletins will be used instead of hymnals.

  • The Family Life Center will be for those who need to be extra careful and distant. Refrain from singing in the FLC.

  • Offering will be on the back table.

  • During communion, Pastor and an elder will come to each household’s pew. If you aren’t ready to take communion, just cross your arms when approached.

  • Bible class will be telecast rather than in person.

Improved Sanctuary Lighting May Be Coming Soon
One of the items that has long been on our congregation’s to do list, prioritized in more than one long term plan, is to find a way to improve lighting in our sanctuary. The advent of LED technology will afford us a step in this direction. Updating and upgrading our current six hanging chandeliers will increase the available light by 50%. This is a positive affordable step toward an ultimate goal of providing on upgrade to spot lighting for worship leaders and will help show to what extent more flexible spot lighting would be desirable. Your church council has endorsed a way forward to implement this upgrade. We are seeking contributions, much as we had done for our welcoming courtyard construction, from all those members who would have a heart for this project. Your specified contributions will be underwritten by available bequest funds so with the endorsement of the voters we can move forward with installation this summer.  Look for further discussion of this project and its funding at our upcoming voters meeting.
