Glimpses of Glendale
Glendale Lutheran Church Newsletter
May 14, 2020
So this Sunday is our soft reopening for worship in the sanctuary. It’s very exciting but want to both assure you and caution you. I assure you that we are trying our best to make thing safe. If you feel like God is calling you to come back then we are here. But I caution you that for many of our older members it may not be time yet. This is a decision between you and God and there is no judgment from me either way.

I’ve had over thirty people tell me they are coming on Sunday. I expect us to have around fifty on Sunday, well below the 75 maximum. It is also OK to come and not take communion. We will all take baby steps towards full engagement in our usual worship. Here once again are the things I ask you to consider for Sunday morning:

  • Make sure you are healthy Sunday morning.

  • The front doors will remain open before, during and after service to minimize contact.

  • No greeters or ushers.

  • Sit in pews that have the hearts posted in them. (Thanks, Lisa)

  • We will have a maximum of 75 people in the sanctuary. (Based off County Guidelines)

  • Congregants are welcome to use a mask.

  • Every other pew will be unused to create a buffer.

  • Households will sit at least 6 feet away from other households.

  • Bulletins will be used instead of hymnals.

  • The Family Life Center will be for those who need to be extra careful and distant. Refrain from singing in the FLC.

  • Offering will be on the back table.

  • During communion, Pastor and an elder will come to each household’s pew. If you aren’t ready to take communion, just cross your arms when approached.

  • Bible class will be telecast rather than in person.

Please either email me at scottjonas314@gmail.com or text me at 805-345-6658 and let me know if you are coming. Your suggestions are welcome as well. The Spirit is still moving at Glendale Lutheran Church.

Improved Sanctuary Lighting May Be Coming Soon
One of the items that has long been on our congregation’s to do list, prioritized in more than one long term plan, is to find a way to improve lighting in our sanctuary. The advent of LED technology will afford us a step in this direction. Updating and upgrading our current six hanging chandeliers will increase the available light by 50%. This is a positive affordable step toward an ultimate goal of providing on upgrade to spot lighting for worship leaders and will help show to what extent more flexible spot lighting would be desirable. Your church council has endorsed a way forward to implement this upgrade. We are seeking contributions, much as we had done for our welcoming courtyard construction, from all those members who would have a heart for this project. Your specified contributions will be underwritten by available bequest funds so with the endorsement of the voters we can move forward with installation this summer.  Look for further discussion of this project and its funding at our upcoming voters meeting.
