Pastor Scott's Message
This week we learned from his son, Dennis, that a long time member, Al Winkler died. Steve and Cathie Albers "remember with great fondness and admiration both Al and Joan--both sang in choir, Al worked tirelessly to enhance garden area (with Milt Sedovic, Jeanne Lipinski's father), and gave me money each year at Christmas which I used throughout the year to respond to emergency needs of 'transcients.' It lasted the entire year and he would replenish it. They were longtime members of Concordia and when they started to worship at GLC I called on them and tried to dissuade them from joining our church but they jumped in with both feet. They were also involved in Bible Class. Two very classy people, faithful people."
We grieve with Dennis and his mom Joan. This week we emphasize that we need the resurrection of the dead. On Easter, Jesus was the first to rise. All who follow in his footsteps will rise also. That is true for the thief on the cross; Stephen, the first martyr; Al Winkler, and us. The stakes are high during Holy Week. Creation needed life breathed back into it. Jesus gave up his breath on the cross. He regained it on the third day. Then he blew the Spirit into his people and into this world.
Join us Maundy Thursday and Good Friday at 6:30pm to remember the cross. Then return Sunday for worship at 9:15am and Breakfast at 10:30 to experience the resurrection. Al Winkler and the communion of Saints rejoice with us.

The 1st Annual Spring Music Concert featuring Jim Thielker on organ, Joan Schlichter and Jean Das on dulcimer, Tori Williams on flute, Layton Wille on violin, and Gwen Peiper on piano will be held on Sunday, April 15 at 3:00pm. Please mark it on your calendars and invite a friend!

Substitute Secretary Needs
It has come to our attention that we have a need for a "Stand-by" list to manage the church office in the event of a last minute emergency or illness by our secretary, Michelle. It would involve answering the phone, monitoring the front door, etc. We simply would like a "presence" in the office to be apparent should Michelle be unable to be here. The time frame is from 8:00am-4:30pm. Please contact any member of the Leadership Council, or leave word with Michelle in the office, and we will be in touch. We do have two immediate dates that she will be out of the office: Thursday, April 12, and Monday, April 16, if you'd like to keep those dates in mind when responding.

We are additionally seeking a name or two of persons who might be interested in filling in for scheduled vacation time/extended absence when the need should arise. The individual would need to be familiar with Windows 7 Professional and Microsoft Office 2010, and have knowledge of the Lutheran Church Ministry and operations. It would involve being the initial contact for visitors, members, preparing weekly announcements, placing information in member mail boxes as needed, and working with Pastor for any other tasks that might be required. The hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Remuneration would be discussed at the time of temporary employment with dates to be determined. Those interested should contact the church office at 314-966-3220 or email glendalelutheranchurch.org attn Phyllis Phelps/leadership council.
