Pastor Scott's Message
Last Week, I shared that Glendale has at least 61 volunteer positions. This week I'd like to delve into the positions that help with worship. It is an opportunity for me to thank those of you who have gifted your time and effort. It is also a way to recruit others.
There are at least 15 worship volunteer positions. The one with the most people is usher. Ushers arrive early to worship so they can familiarize themselves with the worship service. They hand out bulletins and welcome everyone, all while not disturbing the choir as they prepare. Ushers also keep an eye out for any situation. If a suspicious stranger walks menacingly towards the service, they need to notify others. If someone looks like they are having a health concern, they need to help. Another position is greeter. They stand by the glass doors and welcome visitors and members. Their smiles could make all the difference. Every service also has a sound and video tech. They make sure the microphones are working and the service is being recorded and broadcast. We don't have an altar guild but we do have Beth. She makes sure the altar and pulpit are seasonally appropriate. Ken Kight makes sure our candles, lighter and communion supply are fully stocked. Lisa makes our banners. We are blessed to have multiple pastors to assist with communion. We also have trained our elders and others to assist with the body and the blood.
I love hearing children's messages from Marcia and Janet. Tim has also agreed to lead them. It is a blessing me to hear others proclaim the Gospel. That includes readers and those sharing reflections. We all are called to pass on the good news. Did you know that Ken Clark comes early every Sunday and makes coffee, turns on the lights, makes sure the heat or air is on and sets up tables? In most churches the pastor does this so I am very grateful. Beverly Dixson organizes the flowers. A host of people come on a Saturday to set up for Christmas, Lent and Easter. Bless Mary Guion's heart. She makes a personalized baptismal cloth for every child. Someone magically straightens up the children's bags and the pews.
If you would know of others who lend a hand to worship, let me know. If you want to volunteer, tell us. Worship is about the whole people of God, coming together to share his Word and Sacraments. It takes all of us. Thank you.

Notes from the Music Director
  Jim's Gems:
  • God grades on the cross, not the curve.
  • Don't wait for six strong men to take you to church.
  • Quit griping about your church; if it was perfect, you couldn't belong.

Anyone interested in playing handbells, please call Jim at 314-487-6942.

New choir members are always welcome!

Yard Work Volunteer Wanted
We are looking for a volunteer to maintain the boxwood bushes on our campus. Bushes should be trimmed as necessary (2 to 3 times per year). It is estimated to take two to three hours to trim. We will provide a cordless trimmer unless you prefer to use you own. Please let Michelle know if you are willing to take responsibility for this seasonal task.
