Glimpses of Glendale
Glendale Lutheran Church Newsletter
January 16, 2020
Yesterday, the vision team met and focused on what energizes and animates us. Every church should help members to uncover their God-given gifts and passions. It’s especially important for a church our size. The answers can help us to know what direction God wants us to go. During Sunday School we are going to ask ourselves these questions:

  • What one thing bothers you most in the world?
  • If you knew you couldn't fail, what one thing would you pursue for God?
  • What do you tend to pray for the most?
  • What gives you energy?
  • What have you secretly believed you would be really good at if you were only given a chance?
  • What do others say you are good at? Not good at?
  • What projects or accomplishments created a deep sense of satisfaction on your life's journey?
  • What would you want people saying about you at your funeral?
  • State three words that reflect who you were.
  • State three words that reflect what you accomplished.
  • Who are your heroes?
  • Why do you admire them?
  • Who have you wanted to emulate or spend time with but have not been able to?

Glendale Lutheran needs your passion. If we come together and do good for God then we can leave an imprint on our community that lasts forever. We are building a legacy of changed lives. Come discover your passion.

Daily Bible Reading
A Thank You from Oliver LaMie
Dear members of Glendale Lutheran Church,

Grace and peace to you! I bet you have been wondering where we have been for the past little while. The weekend after we got married, Bethany walked for graduation with her master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. We came back so that I could finish the grind of the last week of homework projects. We were in Illinois from Christmas Eve to January 5th, celebrating with my close and extended family, as well as Bethany’s relatives in Chicago. We spent New Years with my friend Ben and his wife, as they also got married this year. That last weekend we spent with my brother Julian and his family in Beecher Illinois, where he is the pastor of a small-medium sized congregation. We watched our nephews while they went out and spent quality time with Julian and Juli after the kids’ bedtime.

As you can tell, we’ve been travelling. You can see just why your well-wishes, prayers, and gifts have been not only wonderful, but very timely. Bethany has been accepted for a job, and I have been through a good interview with Lutheran Senior Services, but neither of us have started yet. Moreover, this is a new place for the both of us, and so it is wonderful that Glendale Lutheran is a community we can both call home. I do not know if I have told you yet, but I have noticed that we have a lot of love at Glendale. I noticed at the first service I came to last summer that there were more hugs exchanged than I have ever seen on an average Sunday. I have seen, from what you have done both locally and abroad, how you approach your lives together, and especially how you have treated me, that the love of Christ dwells here richly. Thank you for showing this love to me. I hope and pray to become the kind of pastor a congregation like yours needs (and, really, already has). I have no doubt that this is the right environment to grow into it.

With many thanks,
-Oliver LaMie
CCLS University & Ambassadors of Reconciliation
Did you know that studies have shown that only 15% of one’s success is based on one’s skill, while 85% of success is grounded in one’s attitude and relationships? CCLS University exists to support parents and teachers to grow personally and professionally to transform lives through Christ-centered education. To that end, CCLS is partnering with Glendale Lutheran Church and Concordia Lutheran Church to provide a course on reconciliation on Sunday, January 26th (Glendale 10:45-11:45 and Concordia 9:30-10:30). We are hosting Ambassadors of Reconciliation, an international ministry, founded to help Christians and their churches in carrying out their peacemaking responsibilities as Christ’s ambassadors. Come learn how to restore relationships through the love of Jesus.
Lutheran Hour Ministries Workshop
Lutheran Hour Ministries has several of their Spiritual Conversations Workshops coming up in January and February. The workshop provides training regarding how we talk about faith and spirituality in this digital age, and you will also receive a Spiritual Conversations starter kit FREE thanks to a grant from Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis. This kit is loaded with tools for you to use in the mission field while applying the principles you will learn in the workshop. Food and refreshments are also provided. Workshop dates are as follows:

  • January 25 at St. Paul's Lutheran, Des Peres, 10am-2pm
  • February 8 at Lutheran High School North, 10am-2pm
  • February 15 at Chapel of the Cross, St Peters, 10am-2pm
