| | | Pastor Scott's Message This lent we have been journeying through the "6 Days of Creation." It is very powerful to look back at Genesis one and contrast it with the Life of Jesus. We would expect to see the Messiah demonstrate the creative mastery of God. Jesus does not disappoint. On Day 1, God is Lord over light and darkness. Jesus is the light and the darkness has not overcome him. On Day2, God separated sky from the chaotic sea. Jesus tells a sea storm to stop and it obeys. On Day 3, God spoke and formed dry land and vegetation. Jesus creates wine and brings fruitfulness to all he does. On Day 4, God created time through the Sun, Moon and Stars. Jesus knew the past, present and future. Last Wednesday we explored Day 5, when God made the creatures of the sea and the air. Jesus created fish at the feeding of the 5,000, and he defeated the great Leviathan Death through his resurrection. Next Wednesday is on Day 6, God forms animals and humans. We have a creative God who filled the universe with wonder and beauty. We also have a creative God who came to earth and filled his followers with wonder and beauty. That same God created you. He is as proud of you as he is of the Mississippi river, the rainbow, the blue whale and the milky way. God's vast creation does make us feel small, but we are not insignificant to Him. The creator came to show himself to you and to create faith in your heart. See you Wednesday.

Bring your families, your grandchildren, for the palm march in the service and the egg hunt on the front lawn after church. There will also be crafts in the gym. CCLS families are invited. A continental breakfast (sign up sheet on the kiosk) will be served after church. In case of inclement weather, the egg hunt will be held inside. PLEASE TAKE HOME the bags of empty eggs to be filled and returned by March 22. Baskets are in the hall outside the office. |

75th Anniversary Celebration Our church will begin a celebration of 75 years of God's grace and blessing on the weekend of May 5-6. But--note--it is only a beginning! Our prayer and plan is that there will be many other opportunities which will reflect and respond to our special anniversary--months of mission and ministry, worship and fellowship and special Bible studies and...the list can go on and on...with joyful gratitude to the Lord of the Church! PLEASE CONSIDER BEING PART OF A SPECIAL PLANNING GROUP TO PLAN OUR 75TH ANNIVERSARY. I have been asked and have the privilege of serving as facilitator of this Planning Group. If you are led to be part of this PLEASE RESPOND BY MARCH 21, either to Michelle or Pastor Scott at the church office or to me, Steve Albers - (314)910-7325 or stevealbers@charter.net. When our Planning Group has been established, we will set a time to meet in the very near future. Thanks for your prayerful consideration. |
Notes from the Music Director Things I have learned from the organ: Music is the KEY to life. When in doubt, think outside the BACHS. Practicing SCALES will tip them in your favor. Sometimes you just have to PIPE up. |
Substitute Secretary Needs It has come to our attention that we have a need for a "Stand-by" list to manage the church office in the event of a last minute emergency or illness by our secretary, Michelle. It would involve answering the phone, monitoring the front door, etc. We simply would like a "presence" in the office to be apparent should Michelle be unable to be here. The time frame is from 8:00am-4:30pm. Please contact any member of the Leadership Council, or leave word with Michelle in the office, and we will be in touch. We do have two immediate dates that she will be out of the office: Thursday, April 12, and Monday, April 16, if you'd like to keep those dates in mind when responding. We are additionally seeking a name or two of persons who might be interested in filling in for scheduled vacation time/extended absence when the need should arise. The individual would need to be familiar with Windows 7 Professional and Microsoft Office 2010, and have knowledge of the Lutheran Church Ministry and operations. It would involve being the initial contact for visitors, members, preparing weekly announcements, placing information in member mail boxes as needed, and working with Pastor for any other tasks that might be required. The hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Remuneration would be discussed at the time of temporary employment with dates to be determined. Those interested should contact the church office at 314-966-3220 or email glendalelutheranchurch.org attn Phyllis Phelps/leadership council. |

Trivia Answers 1. May 2, 1943 2. North Glendale School auditorium 3. The Kirkwood Board of Education ordered discontinuation of heat and light for all non-school activities. GLC members voted to continue services but shortened them to 30 minutes. Services were still well attended. |
