It’s the middle of the week and I’m thinking about last weekend and this weekend. Last weekend was CCLS Sunday. This weekend is the baptism of John Auble VII. The former is a celebration, the latter is a sacrament. They both are the work of the Lord.
CCLS Sunday was a blast. Kelly Climer organized youth participation in the service. We had Gwendoline, Abbey and Layton read the scriptures. Landon, Savanah and Hunter greeted. Mrs. Leet engaged the kids through a children’s message. Dr. Matt Hoehner preached on the CCLS yearly theme “Loved Beyond Measure.” He used a Superman illustration to help us understand the Gospel. It is Superman’s identity that gives him super powers. It is our identity in Christ that gives us power. Thank you to everyone who welcomed our many guests. I appreciate those who brought food and set up tables. Our preschool is something to celebrate. These kids have a school home where they are surrounded by the immeasurable love of Jesus Christ. Our teachers wonderfully live the Gospel through their vocations. I’ve been there when they cried because a child was struggling. I’ve seen them rally around a fellow teacher whose mom just died. I’ve heard them rejoice when a baby was born. This is a special place.
This Sunday we get to baptize. The Auble family has only been coming for a few weeks but they’re ready to call Glendale Lutheran home. Their little one will be “Loved Beyond Measure” through Baptism. We will all get to see a resurrection. John will die and be raised through the water and the word. His parents, John and Karli, the sponsors and our congregation get to commit ourselves to little John’s faith. You and I are called to make this church a blessing to Him where he can know the love of Jesus through us. It makes my heart swell thinking about it. God is using Glendale Lutheran to love the world beyond measure.
