Pastor Scott's Message

I’m really looking forward to Sunday. At 9:15 we have worship outside in the courtyard. Afterwards the space will be transformed into the church picnic. Bring a salad or a side dish to share. We’ve got brats, chicken and the drinks.

I love worshipping outside. I always have. I used to organize an annual church campout. About forty of us would camp under the stars of in RVs. We’d get to sit around and chat. The kids would go fishing and exploring. At night we’d have a fire and smores. On Sunday morning we’d put our portable chairs in a circle and worship. It felt so freeing, to be in the sunshine singing to God. It seemed more of a public declaration of our faith because other campers could hear us or walk right on by. It was like saying grace in a restaurant only more so. I also loved being surrounded by God’s creation as we worshipped. It was like the trees and the flowers were joining us in praising Jesus. On Sunday we will be in the courtyard, the branches and the grass will witness 100 Lutherans confessing Christ. As will all of the people walking their dog or driving past. They often see our church building but now they get to see our church people.

They will also get to see us having fun. When we get together for food I always have a blast. Some will be playing darts. Others will pick up a paddle and play ping pong. Some will sip ice tea and tell stories. Hopefully almost everyone will laugh. Our kids will run around. God will be smiling. Worshipping and fellowshipping in our courtyard reminds us that we are the church inside and outside of our sanctuary. Join us and bring your family, friends and neighbors.
