Pastor Biermann's Message
Sunday is installation day. Well, at least at Salem, Blackjack, it is installation day; and I have a distinct interest in this particular installation. As some of you know, it is my son-in-law, Martin Dressler, who is being installed as the pastor of the north county congregation. Yes, my wife and I are very happy about this turn of events! It will be wonderful to have Martin and Justine and their three children in St. Louis. But, it is also exciting to be able to be part of what God is doing in his church in that congregation. I believe that exciting and, of course, challenging days are ahead for the people of Salem. That's how things work in God's church.

The same is true here, at Glendale. Exciting days are ahead. The call committee is working in earnest: thinking, praying, studying, conversing, and discerning as they seek God's will in the selection of the man that should be called to serve the congregation as its shepherd. God will unfold his plan in his time, of course, and it is certainly going to be exciting to watch it unfold...and, more importantly to be part of it. And, of course, it will also be challenging. God is at work and when God is working, it is inevitable that his people will be challenged to think about what he has planned and how he wants to accomplish that plan.

You play a critical role in this entire process, even now. You are part of it. So, do your part. Pray diligently for the call committee. Pray diligently for the man who will be receiving the call. Pray for yourself that you would be ready to be challenged and led in God's ways by your new pastor. And, while we wait for the plan to unfold, build yourself up in God's truth: be present in worship, encourage each other, support the work of the call committee, and be confident of God's grace at work for this congregation.
First Budget Reading
A first reading of the Leadership Council's proposed 2017/2018 budget will take place at 11:30am on May 21, 2017, in the Family Life Center immediately following Bible Study.  Please plan on attending so we can explain our budget items and answer any questions the Congregation may have on those items. We will provide members with a spreadsheet comparing the current fiscal year budget with next year's proposed budget in advance of the May 21, 2017, meeting. A light lunch will also be provided during the meeting.

Farewell to the Millers
John and Ellen Miller have been teaching and conducting young musicians in the Lutheran South Instrumental Music Program and the LHSS Elementary Band Program since 1998. As the Millers retire at the close of the 2016-2017 school year, we invite you to join them at their final concert on Friday, May 5, at 7:30pm at Concordia Kirkwood.
