Pastor Scott's Message
Thank you to everyone who brought their energy, passion and ideas to the asset mapping last Saturday. We divided up 20 members into four teams. Those teams wrote down every asset to which they had access. They wrote down property assets like a gym, a big youth room, classes and being so close to North Glendale elementary. They wrote down relationship assets like connections to Lutheran organizations, banks, and local businesses and governments. Also on sticky notes were skills that Glendale members possessed like carpentry, golf, teaching, cooking, knitting, music and many more. Each table had at least a hundred assets after the initial brainstorm.
Then we were asked by Matt Miller of the Lutheran Foundation to put combinations of assets together that could be ministries to our neighbors. One group put together gymnasium, healthcare employees and hospitality to form the idea of putting on a blood drive. Another group put together Commercial kitchen, Cooking and Gymnasium into Cooking classes for the community. A third group united large facility, hospitality, local restaurants and brew making to create "A Taste of Glendale," where we would host a restaurant fair. Another group combined Glendale neighborhood, hospitality, and city events into the idea that we should participate in the Glendale Ice Cream Social.
These are all things we can do. We just need the will power to say "Yes." We already have someone eager to start the blood drive. To what are you willing to say "yes"?  Whichever direction we go, God is with us.
Daily Bible Readings
CCLS Sunday
On February 4 we will be welcoming CCLS families and staff to worship at Glendale in celebration of our partnership. We will be hosting them for breakfast after worship. There is a sign up on the kiosk where you can sign up to bring breakfast items or lend a hand with set up or clean up, if you are able to help.
Tables of Eight Begins
There is a sign-up sheet on the kiosk in the church hallway for those of you who would like to join in the fun of Tables of 8 for the next four months beginning in February until May. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other better and enjoy some really good food. Each couple/single will host one month, either in their home, at a restaurant or at church. It's not the venue that is important, but the fellowship. Hope to see a long list of participants. You can sign up until Sunday, February 4. Any questions, call Carol Froesel at 822-1365.
Birthday Bags and Meal Kits - Community Service Project
GLC and CCLS are joining together for the 3rd year to bring joy to a child and their family on his/her birthday. Operation Food Search (OFS) will distribute the bags to agencies that work with families who would not be able to afford a birthday party and surprises for their children without our help. Please consider putting together the Birthday Bag(s) and the Meal Kit(s) during February and placing completed bags on the floor near the box in the foyer by March 2, 2018. Recognizing this takes a bit of work, equally good alternatives are to purchase some of the pieces for either the party or meal bag and place them in the box at the entrance to the church OR give a cash donation to the church secretary, Michelle, Marcia Hempel (GLC) or Jessica Berner (CCLS). We will use the cash to fill in missing pieces in bags on March 3 when we gather to check bags for completion. WHATEVER YOU CONTRIBUTE WILL BE A BIG HELP. THANK YOU.
Nursery Volunteers Needed
The GLC nursery is in need of more volunteers to serve in a rotation with the few dedicated people we already have. Please contact Michelle in the office or Tracey Ortstadt if you're interested in joining the rotation!
