That zeal for the work of the church is wonderful. So, what can you do? Without a doubt, far and away, the single most important thing that you can do for the sake of the health and vitality of Glendale Lutheran Church is simply to attend worship every Sunday. No, it's not a radical new thought or stunning insight. But, it is profoundly true. Attendance at worship is never an option for a believer, it is a sacred responsibility. Worship is not primarily about what you "get out of it." Worship is the time and place when you come together with other believers to be the body of Christ, to receive from God the gifts he gives to his people, to praise your Lord, and to build each other up in the faith. When you are absent, the entire body of Christ suffers. No matter who you are, when you are present, the body of Christ is strengthened. Make a commitment, then, to remove worship from your list of "good things to do." Instead, make it one of those essential things that must happen every week, no matter what. Worship is not in the category of a trip to your favorite restaurant. It's more like the weekly shopping trip to buy milk, bread, and bananas. It has to happen. This Sunday we will celebrate the Reformation. It is a great time to gather with fellow believers. And then since you're here, stay for Bible Class. If you haven't heard, I'm rather enthusiastic about continuing growth in learning and applying God's truth. I love teaching Bible Class, and I am grateful that each Sunday around 40 of you have made the commitment to join the class and enhance the learning. I know that number can increase even more. You are always welcome to join. Any time is a good time to start-I'll make sure you catch up with the topic, and move forward in your understanding of God's reality. I look forward to seeing you Sunday.

Faith Formation Ministry One Family Bible Class
Dr. Biermann leads the Bible Class this morning in the Family Life Center. Grab a cup of coffee and join us. Sunday School Preschool through 1st grade children will meet in the lower level of the Parish House (under the gym). Grades 2 through 6 will meet in the lower level of the new building across from the elevator, room 012. High School youth will gather in the Youth Room. Confirmation class for 7th and 8th grade youth will be in the conference room next to Pastor's office, room 113.
Stewardship Sentence Revelation 14:6 "Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth." During the Reformation this text was used to refer to Luther's ministry and the Lutheran message: we have an eternal Gospel to proclaim. Christ has freed us from our sins without any works on our part! We are saved by grace alone! And ironically enough, Luther said this should make him the "apostle of works:" because once we are freed by grace, we are truly free to serve God in works that flow from thankfulness and praise. |
Pastoral Care If you need pastoral care for any reason, don't hesitate to contact the church office or one of the vacancy pastors directly. Pastor Biermann will be at the church on Monday and Thursday mornings most weeks, and Pastor Erkkinen is available on campus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. |
