| | A Message from Dr. Biermann The end is near! The disheveled prophet holding his placard announcing the nearness of the end is an old and running joke. Those who make dire predictions of the impending end are more readily ridiculed than believed, in our world. Yet, it is true, nonetheless: the end is near. It's not here, yet...but it is getting close. The end of a calendar year is getting closer-it's the eleventh hour...or at least the eleventh month. In the church year, another journey through the annual cycle is winding down (this year, "New Year's Day" in the Church is November 27th). And nature is speeding quickly, now, to the end of another long growing season. The end is coming-it's upon us already. The prophet is right to announce the coming end. But, he's wrong to portray it as dark and dreadful. Behind all the little endings that are getting closer, the final, ultimate, end is also certainly coming. This world does not go on forever. It will end-but not in disaster, destruction, and eternal silence. After all things have run their course, wound down, and decayed, the end of all ends will then come. That end, is not a last bookend, but an inauguration. The end of the world is not a conclusion, it's a target, an objective, and a beginning. The end is the triumphant celebration of Christ's return and the restoration of all that God has created. For Christians, "the end" is not a negative and fearful thing that provokes anxiety or sadness. The end is the point of it all, and the very goal of the universe. The end is when everything is finally the way that God always intended it to be. The end is coming. There's no doubt about that. That great truth lies beneath all that we believe and confess as Christians. It's the message of these days, a message that marks these days with a distinct savor-not of dread, but of hope. |
Faith Formation Ministry One Family Bible Class
Dr. Biermann leads the Bible Class this morning in the Family Life Center. Grab a cup of coffee and join us.
Sunday School Preschool through 1st grade children will meet in the lower level of the Parish House (under the gym). Grades 2 through 6 will meet in the lower level of the new building across from the elevator, room 012. High School youth will gather in the Youth Room. Confirmation class for 7th and 8th grade youth will be in the conference room next to Pastor's office, room 113.
Stewardship Sentence  1 Thessalonians 4:13 "But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope." We are people of the Resurrection. We know our future. And this knowledge colors all our actions in this world. Since we know we are destined to live in God's kingdom forever, what kind of lives ought we to live here and now? Where should our priorities be? |
| Pastoral Care If you need pastoral care for any reason, don't hesitate to contact the church office or one of the vacancy pastors directly. Pastor Biermann will be at the church on Monday and Thursday mornings most weeks, and Pastor Erkkinen is available on campus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. |
| Books & Bread Outreach Plans are well underway to again bless our 75 CCLS Glendale preschool families this Thanksgiving with "Books and Bread." We're now halfway to the number of loaves we'll need! Check out the kiosk in the church lobby and add your name to the list! What you need to know: - Sign up letting us know how many loaves of sweet bread you would like to make
- Take the provided labels (that will be near the sign-ups) to put on your bread
- Bring your loaves to church on Sunday, November 20th or arrange with Sue Schultz to deliver them early
- Pray for our outreach efforts that they may be a blessing for the givers and the receivers

| LFCS Season of Sharing GLC has been asked to participate this year in Lutheran Family and Children's Services Season of Sharing program. Gift cards are needed from stores such as Walmart, Target, Dollar General, and/or grocery stores. These gift cards will then be distributed to over 700 needy people. We will provide a box in which the gift cards can be deposited or you can deliver them to the Church Office. They may also be mailed to the Church Office designating them for Season of Sharing. Monetary gifts may be made payable to LFCS with "Season of Sharing" in the memo line. Lutheran Family hopes to raise over $20,000 to provide needed funding for families who are struggling with the basic necessities of life. All gifts are requested before Sunday, December 11, so they can be sent to LFCS and the distribution process can begin. We will provide more detail on where the gift box and additional information on the ministry will be located.

CCLS Dinner Auction The 2017 Hearts on Fire CCLS Dinner Auction will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Orlando Gardens Banquet Center in south St. Louis county. Please mark your calendar and make plans to attend or support this special fundraising event for the CCLS community. Tickets are $70 per person or $650 for a table of 10. Concordia Historical Institute (CHI) is seeking volunteers to assist visitors and tour groups at the CHI museum at the LCMS International Center in Kirkwood, Missouri. We are looking for those willing to volunteer regularly and to occasionally fill-in when a volunteer needs a day off. Immanuel Boar's Head Christmas Festival The Christmas Festival of the ages, the Boar's Head Festival, will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Charles, December 9, 10 and 11. There will be a 7:30 performance each evening with afternoon performances at 4:00pm both Saturday and Sunday. A dress rehearsal (tickets required) will be held at 7:30pm on December 8. Tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis starting at 8:00am on Tuesday, November 1. Call 636-946-2656 or come to the Immanuel Church office. Get your tickets early! They go fast! There is no charge for the tickets (limit 5 per person). |
