| | Pastor Biermann's Message At last, it's almost here. No, not spring, it seems like that may be here, already. It's Lent that demands a bit more waiting. Ash Wednesday is March 1st and marks the first of our forty days of fasting and preparing for the church's greatest of all festivals. Before we can arrive at the celebration of the resurrection, however, we must first follow our Lord on the way to Jerusalem and then through each poignant day of Holy Week. The celebration at the end is certainly the goal, but the journey there is also rich with meaning and even its own peculiar joys and delights. Even without "alleluia" and even with (or perhaps because of!) an extra dose of hymns in a minor key, Lent offers great rewards. This year, our Wednesdays in Lent will provide an excellent opportunity for you to consider the central reality that drives and animates our faith: the great truth that in Christ God himself was at work to save and restore his broken creation. The theme that will guide and bind the services each Wednesday is "Broken and Restored." This is a series that I prepared for Creative Communications for the Parish, and now I am looking forward to being able to share it with all of you. Each week, the readings and sermon will focus on a different aspect of the Lenten story that is decidedly broken, and that holds a message for us, today. Together, we'll consider six broken things: hearts, a vessel, trust, bread, promises, and justice. Each service will feature unique liturgical elements and, of course, great Lenten hymns. All Wednesday services will be at 6:30. The Ash Wednesday service will include the celebration of the Lord's Supper as well as the Imposition of Ashes. After the penitential service of Ash Wednesday, the following five Wednesdays will be preceded by a congregational potluck which will begin at 5:30 and run until just before the service begins at 6:30. Yes, Lent is a time for fasting and reflection, but it is also time to encourage one another and support one another as we look forward with joy to the Easter celebration. Plan to be present for all six Wednesdays, beginning with Ash Wednesday on the 1st; and then, starting on March 8th, don't miss five successive weeks of congregational fellowship and great food at our potluck meals followed by worship. The meals also provide the prefect venue for testing a new recipe, or bringing out a reliable favorite. I'm eager for Lent to begin-eager to spend my spring Wednesdays with all of you as we reflect on God's great grace for us.

| River Roads Lutheran School Emergency Fundraiser River Roads Lutheran School in North St. Louis was given notification January 16th that they would need to raise $175,000 within 45 days or face closure. While some funds have been raised, more is needed. This is one of the last LCMS affiliated schools in the city of St. Louis and has been open for nearly 150 years. Unlike the model we are used to, these families do not have any association churches they can be members of to help reduce the cost of tuition. They have set up a site to donate online (https://www.gofundme.com/sosrrlsfalcons), but I will take any non-electronic donations to the school if you can get them to me or my church mailbox by February 27th. | Birthday & Family Meal Kits  February is the month to gather for the kits. Saturday, March 4 is the date for assembling, completing and purchasing any missing pieces before the bags go to Operation Food Search. The boxes are in the entry hall to the church - set your bags next to the boxes if there is no room inside. There are extra flyers on the shelf by the mailboxes if you need one. All details are on the kiosk. Looking forward to being able to make many boys and girls happy on their birthdays. Thanks for your help. |

| Community Sausage Supper Immanuel Lutheran Church Olivette invites you to attend their 29th Annual Sausage Supper and Spring Bazaar on Sunday, March 5, from noon to 4:00pm. Carry-outs are available until 5:00pm. All you can eat sausage, real mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, applesauce, bread, and dessert will be served. Immanuel St. Charles Trivia Night Immanuel, St Charles (115 S. Sixth Street) is hosting their annual  Youth Ministries Trivia Night on Saturday, April 1.
