Pastor Biermann's Message
The days are upon us. Holy Week begins on Sunday, and each of the services of this remarkable week are laden with significance and a distinctive emphasis and mood that must be experienced. This is the week when we remember our Lord's passion, death, and resurrection, and no part of that story can be left out or skipped.

Palm Sunday is perhaps the most conflicted Sunday of the year: is it a day of triumph and celebration with waving palms and shouts of "Hosanna!" or is it a muted and melancholy event as we anticipate the coming suffering and sorrow that have driven Jesus into the city? It is, of course both. Come and see the palms, and taste the pathos.

Thursday is another day of mixed thoughts and emotions. This is the day when our Lord gave us the Sacrament of the Altar, and the day when our confirmands declare their faith and first receive that great gift of Christ's body and blood. But, it is also the day before Jesus' death. This service concludes with the somber stripping of the altar in anticipation of the ordeal of Good Friday.

Friday stands as the fulcrum of history. This is the day when God died. This is the day when creation was redeemed. This is the day that marks the center of the universe's existence. These are superlatives, indeed, but no hyperbole: each one is profoundly true. Come and share in the service of darkness, or Tenebrae, as the sanctuary slowly descends into the depth of darkness and death and ends with the silence of the sealed tomb.

And then, at last...Easter. The day of resurrection. What more needs to be said than that death is destroyed and hope is alive. A case for celebrating Easter hardly needs to be made-this is the wonderful goal of the entire season, indeed of the entire Christian life. Certainly, be present for Easter worship, but be present for the entire week and Easter will be all the sweeter--one cannot arrive at Easter except by way of the upper room and Calvary. I look forward to seeing each of you throughout Holy Week.

Stewardship Sentence
Matthew 21:3 - "If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord needs them,' and he will send them at once." Did Jesus really need the donkey? If the man had refused to give the donkey would the work of salvation have been derailed? Of course not. But what an honor for the man who owned this donkey and foal! Likewise with us - the Lord needs none of us, but what an honor for God to choose to use our generosity in the work of His Church.
Easter Breakfast
Our annual Easter Breakfast will be held Easter Sunday, April 16! This is a joyous occasion for our church and a wonderful meal together. Please see the sign-up poster on the kiosk to volunteer breakfast items. We appreciate your help!
Easter Lilies
Easter lily orders are now being taken. Call or email the church office, or use the bright green order form in your mailbox. As in the past, the price per lily is $7.50. Orders must be received by Monday, April 10.
