Pastor Biermann's Message Probably the single greatest event in the life of a seminarian is Call Day. For second-year students, this is the day when they find out in what congregation and in what city they will be spending the next year serving as a vicar and learning much about the work of a pastor. For fourth-year students, the stakes are much higher: they find out where they will begin a life of service to the church as a pastor. While there is a long process involved in placing men into the congregations and ministries seeking a new graduate, the reality is that no one really knows what the future holds until that moment in the service when the candidate's name is read and his assignment is announced. It makes for an exciting time. This year, Call Day is next Wednesday, April 26th. The men, and perhaps even more their families, have been counting down the days for far too long. Now it's almost here. The assignments are announced as part of a memorable worship service in the seminary chapel. The vicarage placement service is in the afternoon, at 3:00 and the Call Service follows at 7:00. This year's vicarage service has particular significance to me. While, I'm always interested in learning where students will be serving, on this Wednesday, one of the students getting a vicarage placement will be my son. It promises to be a significant day for my family. Of course, our fieldworker, Nate, will also be getting his placement during this service. Both services are wonderful times of worship and the atmosphere is rather exhilarating. And, these are both public events open to anyone who cares to attend. Since neither class this year is particularly large, seating should not be at quite the premium that it traditionally tends to be at these services. In other words, if you are able, you should consider coming to the seminary on the 26th to celebrate the work of the church in preparing and sending men to be shepherds for God's people. This is the work of your church; join in the celebration and seek God's blessing on the day.

VBS 2017 Glendale's Vacation Bible School this year will be managed by first year sem student Jim Dorner. As he mentioned in the VBS information email that went out a few weeks ago, "I have communicated with Pastor Biermann and agreed to help run the Vacation Bible School program at Glendale this June. I emphasize the word help, because as any of you who have been involved with this in the past know, it is not a one man job. In order to successfully reach the children in your community with the saving Gospel of Jesus, the whole congregation will need to help! We will need help with running different aspects of the event itself the week of June 5th, collecting donations, and in preparing the building. Most of all, we will need your help in prayer. Please begin to consider how you may help!" Interesting in helping? Contact the church office! Have a child to register? Registration is open! |
