| Pastor Biermann's Message It's been suggested that motherhood is one of the last sacred things in our culture. There may be some truth to this. People who will not hesitate to criticize the church and even ridicule her Lord will speak in reverent tones of the wonder of a mother's love. While I don't think motherhood quite ranks as sacred, there's no doubt that it is vitally important and a beautiful thing. Mothers exemplify selfless love and tenacious giving. Mothers show us what commitment and sacrifice look like. Mothers are conduits of love and support. Mothers are important. But they aren't divine, and the institution is not actually sacred. Indeed, to burden motherhood with the label of sacred is to crush it under a weight it cannot bear. Those who treat mothers and motherhood with the awe and respect that is owed only to God always end up disappointed when their ideals are not realized in reality. A great mother is not divine, but she is doing divine work. Motherhood is precious because it is one of the fundamental vocations. The first earthly relationship any of us have with anyone is with our mothers. Regardless a man's age, status, resources or capabilities, his mother matters to him. Mothers show us the essential aspects of the doctrine of vocation. Vocations are the unique callings we each have in this life. They are tasks and responsibilities that we carry out always and only for the good of those around us. A vocation is a work of service given by God and directed by the will of God, but done for the good of other creatures. Vocations serve others and honor God. A mother doing her work well is doing her vocation well. So, on Sunday, thank your mother for doing her vocation well and giving you the gift of her selfless love. Then, thank your heavenly Father for the wonderful gifts he gives through the vocation of mother.

| Thank You What a joy to serve pancakes to 50 of our CCLS Preschool students, their families, and many of the teachers here at the Glendale campus at the pancake breakfast on May 3. The smiles and the smell of pancakes filled the building! Special thanks to our pancake mixers and flippers--Ken Clark, Rodger Lubben, Ron Froesel, and Mike Toney. | First Budget Reading A reminder that a first reading of the Leadership Council's proposed 2017/2018 budget will take place at 11:30am on May 21, 2017, in the Family Life Center immediately following Bible Study. Please plan on attending so we can explain our budget items and answer any questions the Congregation may have on those items. We will provide members with a spreadsheet comparing the current fiscal year budget with next year's proposed budget in advance of the May 21, 2017, meeting. A light lunch will also be provided during the meeting. - The Leadership Council |

| VBS Update VBS is happening!!! Thank you to all those who stepped up to help for the week of June 5th. We are busy planning and getting ready for it. On Sunday, please look for a poster-board as you enter the building, with a list of items we will need donated. There is a new limit on child registrations of 75, based on the amount of volunteers we have. Make sure to register your children before those spots are filled. I look forward to working with you all, as we share God's love with our neighbors. |

| Pastoral Care If you need pastoral care for any reason, don't hesitate to contact the church office or one of the vacancy pastors directly. Pastor Biermann will be at the church on Monday and Thursday mornings most weeks, and Pastor Erkkinen is available on campus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. |
