Pastor Scott's Message One of the best parts of being a Pastor is that I get a front row seat to see God working. Last weekend, we hosted Teens Encountering Christ (TEC). God's presence was obvious and I got to see it. Thirty youth from all over St. Louis came for various reasons. Some came because their parents made them. Some came expecting a typical youth lock-in. Others showed up because someone they respect recommended it. Their reasons didn't matter. On last Saturday morning they were immediately welcomed by twenty volunteers who surrounded them with warmth and acceptance. Those volunteers served the whole three days, cleaning, making food, praying, and memorizing scripture. Most of them attended a TEC years ago where Jesus changed their life. This was their opportunity to bring the spiritual experience full circle. The weekend was filled with singing (sometimes they would just walk around the building led by a guy with a guitar), diving into God's word, journaling. Praying, and investing in each other's lives. One of the highlights was Saturday night. A pastor led a study on confession, then the congregants followed the stations of the cross to the altar. They gathered in between the communion rails and heard a confession through a testimony. The youth were invited to sit in the pews and contemplate. Meanwhile, five pastors were available for private confession absolution. There were tears, relief and compassion. I tell people that confession/absolution in church is practice for everyday life. God didn't give just pastors the power to forgive sins, he gave it to the whole church. James 5 says, "Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed." We need that all the time from family and friends. We need someone look us in the eye and say, "I forgive you." That was what the youth experienced at TEC among many other wonderful things. We are blessed as a congregation to be a part of it and see God working. |
CCLS Sunday On February 4 we will be welcoming CCLS families and staff to worship at Glendale in celebration of our partnership. We will be hosting them for breakfast after worship. There is a sign up on the kiosk where you can sign up to bring breakfast items or lend a hand with set up or clean up, if you are able to help. |
Sem Student Thank You's! The Seminary families blessed by Christmas gifts from GLC were overwhelmed and grateful. Check the kiosk to see their thank you letters (and adorable pictures). |
Notes from the Music Director "If" is a huge word. Let me explain: If 4-5 sopranos, 2 altos, 2-3 tenors, and 2-3 bass would join our already wonderful church choir, we would be able to perform "Cantata"-type anthems especially during the major Festivals! Are you one of the above? Please let me know! I am not looking for an opera singer or a coloratura soprano, just a volunteer choir member who loves to sing for Jesus! Please see me after Church or call me anytime at 314-487-6942. "Let's just Praise the Lord!" |
