Pastor Scott's Message Palm Sunday is has two contrasting scenes. In the original scene, Jesus is surrounded on both sides by a large crowd eager to see the miracle man. They swing palm branches and cry out "Hosanna!" The throng of people don't know Jesus, and have no idea that the cross is coming. In our scene this Sunday, the church is full on both sides eager to see the Savior. We swing palm branches and cry out "Hosanna!" We know Jesus and celebrate his work on the cross. It is the beginning of Holy week, the most important week in history. It's so important that the Bible spends more time on it than any other seven days including the first seven. Jesus arrives on a Donkey to restore creation. You and I are being restored. So we make a big deal out of it. This week is at the core of who we are as church. Kids parade down the aisle in the beginning of the service waving their branches. We have a brunch after Palm Sunday service. Little ones search for Easter Eggs on the lawn and playground. We celebrate one last time before the darkness of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The work of the cross saves us but it is gruesome. Thank God, the savagery and shame of the cross is surrounded by Palm Sunday and Easter Morning.

Notes from the Music Director Things I have learned from the organ: Music is the KEY to life. When in doubt, think outside the BACHS. Practicing SCALES will tip them in your favor. Sometimes you just have to PIPE up. |
Substitute Secretary Needs It has come to our attention that we have a need for a "Stand-by" list to manage the church office in the event of a last minute emergency or illness by our secretary, Michelle. It would involve answering the phone, monitoring the front door, etc. We simply would like a "presence" in the office to be apparent should Michelle be unable to be here. The time frame is from 8:00am-4:30pm. Please contact any member of the Leadership Council, or leave word with Michelle in the office, and we will be in touch. We do have two immediate dates that she will be out of the office: Thursday, April 12, and Monday, April 16, if you'd like to keep those dates in mind when responding. We are additionally seeking a name or two of persons who might be interested in filling in for scheduled vacation time/extended absence when the need should arise. The individual would need to be familiar with Windows 7 Professional and Microsoft Office 2010, and have knowledge of the Lutheran Church Ministry and operations. It would involve being the initial contact for visitors, members, preparing weekly announcements, placing information in member mail boxes as needed, and working with Pastor for any other tasks that might be required. The hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Remuneration would be discussed at the time of temporary employment with dates to be determined. Those interested should contact the church office at 314-966-3220 or email glendalelutheranchurch.org attn Phyllis Phelps/leadership council. |
