Glimpses of Glendale
Glendale Lutheran Church Newsletter
August 13, 2020
Sunday is going to be a pretty awesome day. We are going to have a confirmation and a baptism in the same family. David Moore is getting confirmed and his nephew, Colton is getting baptized.

David has been meeting with me for the last three years. Since he is the only one of confirmation age I met with him for 30 minutes in my office for catechizes and then downstairs in the youth room for ping pong and pool. By the way, David is good at both which he must get from his mom, Cyndi, who is an elite billiards player.

I can tell you that David is a great kid. He loves the outdoors. He and his brother, Spencer, are in the boy scouts along with fellow Glendale member, Tori Williams. They are always going camping, hiking, organizing servant events, and completing badges. David also loves fishing with his dad, Sherman. Covid hasn’t been so bad for David. He got to tag along on an 18 wheeler across the country. David is a joy for me to get to know and I pray for his continued faith development. Confirmation is when David publicly professes his faith and we support him in it.

Little Colton is David’s sister’s son. It will great to have Colton’s mom, Ashley at the baptism along with great grandpa and grandma, Spence and Sylvia Bach. Baptism, of course, is when we get to witness God’s words of promise make Colton a forgiven child of God. It’s beautiful to be there a see God working. We promise to support the faith in this family.
Please wear a mask during worship services.

Deacons' Ministry Renewed
A new opportunity for training and serving will be offered here at GLC starting with an all-day retreat September 12th. The Deacons’ Ministry is being renewed with both front-loaded training as well as ongoing training.

In the past under the direction of Pastor Emeritus Albers and Bill Lubben, more than 20 people served faithfully, with some continuing to offer support and friendship to the people under their care.

This new ministry will begin with no more than eight people who (a) have a compassionate heart toward others, (b) are willing to commit to the training for one year, and (c) will make a decision at the end of the training if they want to continue serving as commissioned, congregational deacons.

For those who want to hear more details, please contact Joel Hempel (trainer and coordinator) and/or attend an introduction to the training/ministry at Bible class on Sunday, August 16.

A signup sheet for deacons’ training/ministry along with a brief description is posted on the kiosk.
