Glimpses of Glendale
Glendale Lutheran Church Newsletter
April 29, 2021
This Sunday will Andy and Tracey Ortstadt’s last weekend here before they move to Indiana. Thankfully, it’s not goodbye forever but goodbye for now. They both are woven into the fabric of Glendale Lutheran church along with their kids Zach and Grace. They have been a blessing to us as we have been to them. On Sunday we will have a reception in their honor. On Tuesday the ladies' Bible study is having a reception as well.

Over the past year, the Ortstadts made the decision to move to Indiana. In many ways, the decision to move is much like the decision of which congregation to join. God calls us to a place to live like he calls us to a church. We have the freedom in Christ to live and worship where we desire. We call that vocation. God is going to use us wherever we go yet we try to discern God’s will and go where he calls.

As a pastor, I am called to Glendale Lutheran Church. The voting body decided to extend an invitation to me and I prayerfully accepted. As members, you don’t have the same process but you do have a calling to a congregation. We all have to discern if this is where we are to make disciples. In a sense, every time you come to 1365 N Sappington and worship, you are confirming your vocation as a member here. Someday, God may call you to another church, like the Ortstadts. Or he may call you to dwell among us for the rest of your life. Either way, we are grateful for you as we are grateful for the Ortstadts.
Please wear a mask during worship services.

Upcoming Voters' Meetings

The Leadership Council is calling two Voters’ Meetings to take place in the Family Life Center immediately after the services on June 6, 2021, and June 27, 2021. The agenda for the June 6, 2021, meeting will include a first reading of the 2021-2022 Church Budget, a request to approve updates to our Bequest Fund Policy, and requests for the voters to approve several bequest fund expenditures. On June 27, 2021, the Leadership Council will request voter approval for the Budget. Please make sure to mark these dates in your calendar so you can attend and ask any questions you may have.
Mortgage Update

By the end of this fiscal year we will have reduced our original mortgage principal balance by over $160,597! This is reduction from an original balance of $900,000 to the current balance $739,403 with three more months to go. This significant reduction in our principal liability was accomplished in only three years thanks to a steady stream of member gifts specified for additional principal payments. Again, due to the additional principal payments, the actual term of our loan has been reduced by at least two years – from 20 years to only 18 years. We remind you also that the reduction in the term of our loan allowed us to avoid over $100,000 in interest payments to date. Our current interest rate, again thanks to many members opening accounts with LCEF, is a very advantageous 4.75 percent. This rate is guaranteed for us until June of 2023. After 2023 it will raise only slightly to 5%.

We acknowledge with thankfulness those who week by week slowly keep chipping away to reduce our indebtedness.
A Note of Thanks

Thank you for your prayers and get well cards. An active church family, with God, can do wonderful things. Joan and I appreciate the extra help. It’s not over yet, but I did receive some good news.

Blessings,
Joan & Hank Schlichter
