Money is a tricky subject for a pastor. Sometimes I love talking about it; sometimes not so much. This past Sunday, the voters generously gave $20,000 to Christian Friends of New Americans which will be doubled by the Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis. The voters also gave $10,000 to our missionaries, the Bakers, for a church building in Mongolia. I love talking about giving away money to worthy causes that spread the Gospel. It’s exciting! We are being used by God to bless people all over the world.
Then there is the other side. Over the last three months, Glendale Lutheran’s regular expenses have been $30,000 more than offerings. Our giving is down from last year. Some of that is because we have had members die who were very faithful givers. In fact, they left the bequests that we have been giving away or spending on onetime expenses like the roof, and camera system. It’s important for you to know the situation because it may require cutting things for next year’s budget.
One money issue I want to address in gratitude for your faithful giving. If no one has ever thanked you for your offerings to the Lord, let me be the first, “Thank you!” Your generosity is fuel to the engine of this church. The Gospel is proclaimed everyday here thanks to your dollars. We are blessed and you are appreciated.
