Hymn of InvocationI Know That My Redeemer Lives (LSB 461 v1-4)

I know that my Redeemer lives;

What comfort this sweet sentence gives!

He lives, He lives, who once was dead;

He lives, my ever-living head.

He lives triumphant from the grave;

He lives eternally to save;

He lives all glorious in the sky;

He lives exalted there on high.

He lives to bless me with His love;

He lives to plead for me above;

He lives my hungry soul to feed;

He lives to help in time of need.

He lives to grant me rich supply;

He lives to guide me with His eye;

He lives to comfort me when faint;

He lives to hear my soul’s complaint.

+ Preparation +

P:    In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C:    Amen.

P:    Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the Lord,

C     who made heaven and earth.

P     I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord,

C     and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.

Confession of Sins

P     O almighty God, merciful Father,

C     I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being.

Absolution

P     Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C     Amen.

let the humble hear and be glad.

P. Oh, magnify the Lord with me,

and let us exalt his name together!

C. I sought the Lord, and he answered me

and delivered me from all my fears.

P. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears

and delivers them out of all their troubles.

ALL: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;

Collect

P Almighty God, You show mercy to Your people in all their troubles. Grant us always to recognize Your goodness, give thanks for Your compassion, and praise Your holy name; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen.

First Reading:  Psalm 111

Praise the Lord!

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,

in the company of the upright, in the congregation.

Great are the works of the Lord,

studied by all who delight in them.

Full of splendor and majesty is his work,

and his righteousness endures forever.

He has caused his wondrous works to be re membered;

the Lord is gracious and merciful.

He provides food for those who fear him;

he remembers his covenant forever.

He has shown his people the power of his works,

in giving them the inheritance of the nations.

The works of his hands are faithful and just;

all his precepts are trustworthy;

they are established forever and ever,

to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.

He sent redemption to his people;

he has commanded his covenant forever.

Holy and awesome is his name!

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;

all those who practice it have a good understanding.

His praise endures forever!

P:  This is the Word of the Lord.

C:  Thanks be to God.

Epistle –Colossians 1:15-20 (CCLS Theme Verse)

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

P:  This is the Word of the Lord.

C:  Thanks be to God.

Alleluia and Verse

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Holy Gospel – Luke 17: 11-19

P:  The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the seventeenth  chapter.

C: Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

On the way to Jerusalem [Jesus] was passing along between Samaria and Galilee.

And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

P:  This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C: Praise be to Thee, O Christ.

Nicene Creed

C   I believe in one God,

    the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth

         and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,

    the only-begotten Son of God,

    begotten of His Father before all worlds,

    God of God, Light of Light,

    very God of very God,

    begotten, not made,

    being of one substance with the Father,

    by whom all things were made;

    who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven

    and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary

    and was made man;

    and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

    He suffered and was buried.

    And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures

         and ascended into heaven

    and sits at the right hand of the Father.

    And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,

    whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit,

    the Lord and giver of life,

    who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

    who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,

    who spoke by the prophets.

    And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church,

    I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,

    and I look for the resurrection of the dead

    and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

Children’s Hymn – We are the Church (AGPS 252)

I am the Church! You are the church. We are the Church together.

All who follow Jesus, all around the world. Yes, we are the church together!

The church is not a building.

The church is not a steeple,

The church is not a resting place.

The church is a people.

I am the church, you are the church, We are the church together.

All who follow Jesus all around the world, Yes we are the church together!

Children’s Sermon – Janet Leet

Hymn of the Day 549 All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name

All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ name.

Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem

And crown Him Lord of all.

Bring forth the royal diadem

And crown Him Lord of all.

Crown Him, ye martyrs of our God,

 Who from His altar call;

Extol the stem of Jesse’s rod

And crown Him Lord of all.

Extol the stem of Jesse’s rod

And crown Him Lord of all.

Ye seed of Israel’s chosen race,

 Ye ransomed from the fall,

Hail Him who saves you by His grace

And crown Him Lord of all.

Hail Him who saves you by His grace

.And crown Him Lord of all.

Hail Him, ye heirs of David’s line,

Whom David Lord did call,

The God incarnate, man divine,

And crown Him Lord of all.

The God incarnate, man divine,

And crown Him Lord of all.

Sermon: Dr. Matt Hoehner

Offertory

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

And renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from Thy presence,

And take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.

Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation,

And uphold me with Thy free spirit. Amen.

Sanctus

Holy, holy, holy Lord God of Sabaoth;

heav'n and earth are full of Thy glory.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is He, blessed is He,

Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Lord’s Prayer

C:  Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Words of Our Lord

P:  Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My + body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.”

     In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My + blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Pax Domini

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always.

C: Amen.

Agnus Dei

O Christ, Thou Lamb of God,

that takest away the sin of the world,

have mercy upon us.

O Christ, Thou Lamb of God,

that takest away the sin of the world,

have mercy upon us.

O Christ, Thou Lamb of God,

that takest away the sin of the world,

grant us Thy peace. Amen.

Distribution

Distribution Hymn – In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my Light, my Strength, my Song

This Cornerstone, this Solid Ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease

My Comforter, my All in All

Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh

Fullness of God in helpless Babe

This Gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones He came to save

‘Til on that cross as Jesus died

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid

Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain

Then bursting forth in glorious day

Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory

Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death

This is the power of Christ in me

From life’s first cry to final breath

Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man

Can ever pluck me from His hand

‘Til He returns or calls me home

Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

Blessing

Nunc Dimittis

Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant

depart in peace according to Thy word,

for mine eyes have seen Thy salvation,

which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people,

a light to lighten the Gentiles

and the glory of Thy people Israel.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end. Amen.

Closing Hymn – I Know That My Redeemer Lives (LSB 461, verses 5-8)

He lives to silence all my fears;

He lives to wipe away my tears;

He lives to calm my troubled heart;

He lives all blessings to impart.

He lives, my kind, wise, heav’nly friend;

He lives and loves me to the end;

He lives, and while He lives, I’ll sing;

He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.

He lives and grants me daily breath;

He lives, and I shall conquer death;

He lives my mansion to prepare;

He lives to bring me safely there.

He lives, all glory to His name!

He lives, my Jesus, still the same;

Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives:

I know that my Redeemer lives!
