Greeting and Welcome

Hymn of Invocation – Alleluia! Jesus is Risen (LSB 474)

Alleluia! Jesus is risen!

Trumpets resounding in glorious light!

Splendor, the Lamb, Heaven forever!

Oh, what a miracle God has in sight! Refrain

Refrain: Jesus is risen and we shall arise:

Give God the glory! Alleluia!

Walking the way, Christ in the center

Telling the story to open our eyes;

Breaking our bread, giving us glory:

Jesus our blessing, our constant surprise. Refrain

Jesus the vine, we are the branches;

Life in the Spirit the fruit of the tree;

Heaven to earth, Christ to the people,

Gift of the future now flowing to me. Refrain

Weeping, be gone; sorrow, be silent:

Death put asunder, and Easter is bright.

Cherubim sing: “O grave, be open!”

Clothe us in wonder, adorn us in light. Refrain

City of God, Easter forever,

Golden Jerusalem, Jesus the Lamb,

River of life, saints and archangels,

Sing with creation to God the I AM! Refrain

Invocation

P: In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

Confession and Absolution

P: Great is His steadfast love toward us,

C: and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever.

P: How precious is Your steadfast love, O God!

C: The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.

P: Bidden by His steadfast love, let us take refuge in the mercy of God, confessing our sins and rejoicing in His gift of forgiveness through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Silence is kept for meditation and reflection.

P: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

C: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

P: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

P: He who began this good work within you will bring it to completion on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. The peace of the Lord be with you.

C: And also with you.

Salutation and Prayer of the Day

P: The Lord be with you.

C: And also with you.

P: Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, who governs all things in heaven and on earth, mercifully hear the prayers of Your people and grant us Your peace through all our days; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen.

First ReadingIsaiah 62:1–5

For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

P: This is the Word of the Lord.

C: Thanks be to God.

Epistle 1 Corinthians 12:1–11

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

P: This is the Word of the Lord.

C: Thanks be to God.

Holy GospelMark 1:21-28

P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the first chapter.

C: Glory to You, O Lord.

And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath [Jesus] entered the synagogue and was teaching. And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.

P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C: Praise to You, O Christ.

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life + everlasting. Amen.

Children’s Hymn – Jesus Loves the Little Children

Jesus loves the little children

All the children of the world

Red, brown, yellow, black and white

They are precious in His sight

Jesus loves the little children of the world

Jesus died for all the children

All the children of the world

Red, brown, yellow, black and white

They are precious in His sight

Jesus died for all the children of the world.

Jesus loves the little children

All the children of the world,

Every color, shape, and size,

They are precious in his eyes,

Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Hymn of the Day – The Church’s One Foundation (LSB 644)

The Church’s one foundation

Is Jesus Christ, her Lord;

She is His new creation

By water and the Word.

From heav’n He came and sought her

To be His holy bride;

With His own blood He bought her,

And for her life He died.

Elect from ev’ry nation,

Yet one o’er all the earth;

Her charter of salvation:

One Lord, one faith, one birth.

One holy name she blesses,

Partakes one holy food,

And to one hope she presses

With ev’ry grace endued.

Though with a scornful wonder

The world sees her oppressed,

By schisms rent asunder,

By heresies distressed,

Yet saints their watch are keeping;

Their cry goes up, “How long?”

And soon the night of weeping

Shall be the morn of song.

Through toil and tribulation

And tumult of her war

She waits the consummation

Of peace forevermore

Till with the vision glorious

Her longing eyes are blest,

And the great Church victorious

Shall be the Church at rest.

Yet she on earth has union

With God, the Three in One,

And mystic sweet communion

With those whose rest is won.

O blessèd heav’nly chorus!

Lord, save us by Your grace

That we, like saints before us,

May see You face to face.

Preface

P: The Lord be with you.

C: And also with you.

P: Lift up your hearts.

C: We lift them to the Lord.

P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

C: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

P: You are worthy of being praised, O Lord, holy Father, almighty God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who has washed clean and clothed in righteousness the church, the Bride of Christ, and still preserves her to that day when the marriage feast of the Lamb shall have no end and we shall be one in Your presence on high forevermore. Until the day of Christ has come, preserve in us the song of joy as we, Your people, lend our voices to the chorus of saints and angels and archangels, praising Your name and singing:

Sanctus

Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of pow'r and might:

Heaven and earth are full of Your glory.

Hosanna, Hosanna.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed it He who comes

in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

P: Holy and mighty God, in Your mercy, You bore with us sinners who deserved only condemnation and sent forth Your own Son to rescue us as Your own people and restore us as the people of Your delight. With thanksgiving for all that our Savior did by His own self-offering in love on the cross, and living in hope because of His resurrection from the dead, we pray You to keep us as Your own sons and daughters, nourish us with the blessed food of Your body and blood, and bring us at last into the blest reunion of all Your family, gathered before Your throne on high forevermore.

C: Amen.

The Words of Our Lord

P: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My + body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My + blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Proclamation of Christ

P: As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

C: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

P: O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Pax Domini

P: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

C: Amen.

Distribution

Distribution Hymn – Jesus Comes Today with Healing (LSB 620)

Jesus comes today with healing,

Knocking at my door, appealing,

Off’ring pardon, grace, and peace.

He Himself makes preparation,

And I hear His invitation:

“Come and taste the blessèd feast.”

Christ Himself, the priest presiding,

Yet in bread and wine abiding

In this holy sacrament,

Gives the bread of life, once broken,

And the cup, the precious token

Of His sacred covenant.

Under bread and wine, though lowly,

I receive the Savior holy,

Blood and body, giv’n for me,

Very Lamb of God from heaven,

Who to bitter death was given,

Hung upon the cursèd tree.

God descends with heav’nly power,

Gives Himself to me this hour

In this ordinary sign.

On my tongue His pledge receiving,

I accept His grace, believing

That I taste His love divine.

Let me praise God’s boundless favor,

Whose own feast of love I savor,

Bidden by His gracious call.

Wedding garments He provides me,

With a robe of white He hides me,

Fits me for the royal hall.

Now have I found consolation,

Comfort in my tribulation,

Balm to heal the troubled soul.

God, my shield from ev’ry terror,

Cleanses me from sin and error,

Makes my wounded spirit whole.

Blessing

Post-Communion Collect

We give thanks to You, almighty God, that You have refreshed us through this salutary gift, and we implore You that of Your mercy You would strengthen us through the same in faith toward You and fervent love toward one another; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen.

Benediction

P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and + give you peace.

C: Amen.

Closing Hymn – We Shall Overcome (AGPS 259)

We shall overcome, we shall overcome,

We shall overcome someday;

Oh, if in our hearts we do believe,

We shall overcome someday.

We’ll walk hand in hand, we’ll walk hand in hand,

We’ll walk hand in hand someday.

Oh, if in our hearts we do believe,

We’ll walk hand in hand someday.

We shall all have peace, we shall all have peace,

We shall all have peace someday.

Oh, if in our hearts we do believe,

We shall all have peace someday.

We are not afraid, we are not afraid,

We are not afraid this day.

Oh, if in our hearts we do believe,

We are not afraid this day.

God is on our side, God is on our side,

God is on our side this day.

Oh, if in our hearts we do believe,

God is on our side this day.
