Pastor Biermann's Message
Christ's church is a remarkable and wondrous creation of God. It has no parallel in the world. It is not a club, or a service organization, it is not a nation, it is not a people-group, it is not a business venture, or an academic collaboration. While it has characteristics similar to many other things we know and recognize in our lives, it is utterly unique. The church is the bride of Christ--even more profoundly, the church is the very body of Christ, his voice, his activity, his presence in the world. The church is comprehensive, sweeping all believers from every place and every time into its one holy corporeal reality, and the church is intimate and close, fully present in a single congregation or even the gathering of two or three followers of Christ. All of this is present and true whenever we speak about the church.

This means that whatever you do as you follow Christ, you do as an integral member of the church, and in service to that church. When you do something in your own congregation, you are doing it for entire church catholic--that is, the una sancta, the "one holy" universal and complete church. Nothing ever happens in isolation. The way that God has designed the church does not allow for separation or independence. For almost a year, it has been my great joy to serve Christ's church by serving you, the people of Glendale Lutheran. And by being faithful in attendance, receiving and using God's gifts, and eager to accomplish God's will in and through your congregation, you have done well what God calls you to do, serving your congregation and one another, and so serving the whole church. I am grateful that God brought me into your fellowship and allowed me the opportunity to walk with you for a while as we followed Christ together.

God will continue to provide for you, lead you, and use you to do his work and to fulfill his plans for his church. Under the care and guidance of your new shepherd, God will accomplish much in and through you, and his church will grow and be strengthened as his people continue to strive and yearn for the day when God at last fulfills every purpose and promise at the eternal wedding feast of his Son. Until that day, we walk as God directs, and we walk together, regardless the realities of physical distance or space between us. I'll see you at the feast.
Installation Service & Reception
This Sunday is Installation Day! Please join us at 3:00pm on August 27 for the Installation Service of Glendale's new pastor, the Reverend Scott Jonas. An hors d'oeuvres reception will be held immediately afterwards to welcome Pastor Scott, his wife Ann, and daughters Grace and Faith to the GLC family.

Reminder that there will be no Saturday worship this weekend.
Bible Studies

Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study
Tuesday morning's Women's Bible Study is starting September 12th at 9:15am.  We'll explore "What's Your Mission?" using DVD's and scripture as we study "Israel's Mission" through curriculum provided by Ray Vander Laan's series "That the World May Know."  Ray is a biblical archeologist whose teaching always gives fresh insight to scriptures.
If you are able to join us or just have questions please call Carol Froesel (822-1365) or Jeanne Clark (821-0522).

Thursday Evening Women's Bible Study
All women of Glendale are invited to participate in the Thursday evening Bible study which will begin September 7th. We meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:00pm at the church. We will be using "Glory Days: Trusting in the God Who Fights for You" by Max Lucado, published in 2015. Each person may order the book as they wish--it may be available as an eBook, on Amazon, on a church book resource site, or certainly at Barnes and Noble. Please order as you wish and come ready to be encouraged by the Word and Love of our God. Please pick up your name tag on the way into class and please call or email me if you have questions or concerns. Looking forward to being with you all! God's blessings to all during this special time in our church as we welcome the Jonas' family.

Operation Christmas Child
I hope you've noticed the "Christmas in July" display of Operation Christmas Child Boxes. I've started this campaign now because this is when many school supplies are at a deep discount. Actually, we have until November to complete our donations. There is literature at the display to help you decide what to include in your gift(s). Last year, 11 million children received these cherished boxes. Those sent from GLC were sent to Mexico (we can now track them via computer). This is a project for the whole family, from grandparents to preschoolers, so please join us to reach the less fortunate and possibly non-Christians (tracts and other Christian literature will be included in your box by volunteers before they are dispatched overseas.

If you have ANY questions, please call Carol Froesel at 822-1365. Have fun and God bless our efforts!

P.S. Be sure to identify your box(es) by age and gender (there will be labels at church) and if possible include $9 to help with the shipping costs--this is not necessary but helpful. Again, thank you!
