Pastor Scott's Message
The Barberchecks invite everyone over to their house this Saturday October 14th at 6:00pm for Oktoberfest. Their address is 629 Bonita Ave., Webster Groves. Hospitality is a vital Christian Attribute. Romans 12 tells us to practice it. Opening your home to others is a beautiful thing. It actually opens us up to much more than that.

Hospitality invites others to take a glimpse into the real you. Of course we all clean up our house when we have guests. Dust bunnies get vacuumed. Tablecloths get washed. Clutter finds a concealed destination. But guests still get see us through our home. Family pictures show fun memories. Inherited furniture tell a story. Books on the shelf show the host's interests. By inviting people over, the hospitable make themselves vulnerable.

God calls us to open ourselves up to brothers and sisters in Christ. When we have guests, there is an intimacy. It is an honor to enter another's home. Paul says, "Welcome others as Christ welcomes you." We play out the Gospel every time we have a dinner party. Jesus loves us enough to invite us into fellowship with him. Answer the Barbercheck's invitation by joining them for food and drink this Saturday. It's good for you and for the Lord's church.

Voters' Meeting
A Special Voters' Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 22, 2017, in the sanctuary immediately following service to elect Elders and Leadership Council members. Sandy Barbercheck and Jeff Wille have been nominated to renew their service on the Council for additional three-year terms. We will provide you with Elder candidates when we finalize the nominees. Additionally, we are pleased to announce Thomas Schultz will be joining the Leadership Council as a nonvoting member.

Please plan on attending the Meeting to provide any additional nominations you may have and to vote on these Elder and Leadership positions.
Doors and Windows
Those of you that have attended any gathering in the Family Life center perhaps have noticed that the seals on the double pane windows that open onto the "Rose Garden" have been compromised. This is something that has been worsening over the past few years and has created a "fog" between the two panes of glass. This can only be remedied by replacement and monies for the effort have been approved in this year's expense budget.

Having said all that, those who have been given the responsibility for the upkeep of our campus property began to think of an alternate and, perhaps, better solution. The "Rose Garden" is a space that could find new life if we had better access. Karen Frimel and Paul Barbercheck have agreed to help us create a vision of what a renewed exterior space might look like and what multipurpose activities it might support. Regardless of what vision we as a congregation ultimately agree to adopt, the first and certainly essential step in the process is to create that better access to the area. We need to replace one or both of the current window walls with large doorways. Money spent to replace windows would be money foolishly spent.

The challenge: doors cost more than windows. We are in the process of looking at multiple vendors and assessing the added cost. In the meantime, we will be creating an opportunity for those who might want to support this effort financially. You can designate monies to a "Dollars for Doors" campaign.
Reduction of Principal for Member Loans
Thank you to those who continue to specify funds beyond contributions to the general fund for the on-going need to reduce our indebtedness. We continue to use these funds to whittle away at the total owed.
